B service at 9K

Well B service due soon in the MID showed up today. Dealer wants to charge me $239 for it, minus $39 tire rotation, since I just changed my wheels/tires.

Did anyone pay a lower amount in the NYC, NJ area?

I'm thinking I'll just get the oil change. Is everything else listed for the B service required?

Is it a B1 service? That's whacked and way too much for a B service considering it's just an oil and filter change plus some visual inspections. I'm not on the East Coast but there's no way I'd pay that! That is hi-way robbery. I'm sure you're gonna get a bunch of replies on this one. If there's another dealer close to you, find out how much they charge and pick the less of two evils. Another option would be DIY. Here's a thread on B2 Service which includes changing the Air and Pollen Filter. There are also some comments about the B service. I paid under a $100 for the B Service.

B service at 9K?! Seems a little weird... my B service showed up for the first time (i think) just now at 19.5K. Dealer is charging me $170. But I think it will be $30 less than that as I won't be getting the tire rotation.

MID indicated B1 service at little over 10K. I think the MID displays the B2 at about the 15-20K range. I may be wrong.

It all depends on the type of driving you do when the B service appears. His A service probably came around 4,500, but if he lives in NYC or anywhere nearby, the type of driving done there will significantly lower the miles when the MID determines service is necessary.

Without knowing the type of driving done, it is impossible to compare one persons experience with anothers. Mine showed around 15% at 6,500 miles, and I chose to do the oil change then instead of waiting, but I probably would have reached 7,500 miles before the A or B showed.

My first service was just the A. It did come around 4,500.

The A service is just replace engine oil. B service is replace engine oil and oil filter with some other inspections. Is the A service's oil change same as the B service's oil change?

According to the manual, the A service is only changing the oil, not the filter, and the B service is changing oil and filter. But anyone who changes the oil and not the filter is crazy, so a note for everyone, be sure your dealer changes the filter also on the A service. There were some reports here of some dealers not changing the filter unless they were told to do so.

The B service also includes a tire rotation, plus a lot of items to be checked, which should be checked anyway with each oil change, so don't pay extra for this.

You are getting mugged. Most dealers silently "combine" the acura recommended service items with their own "recommendations", and then charge for the work using utrageous hourly rates.

My advice: write down the list of actions to be performed for the B service from your Acura manual, and then go to a Honda dealer (Honda - not Acura) and ask them for a quote specifically based on your service list, not the bloated "recommended wiper inspection, the inspection took 15 minutes, based on the result of the instection, recommended wiper insert re-fill re-check then double-check and refill again, by two technicians (one holding the wiper, the other checking), wiper insert cost $0.15, technicians labor cost $84.95" type of thing.

You should not pay more than $70-$100 for B1 service.

when B service showed up on the mid i went with the dealer's
"recommended" service which they called 7500 mile service(probably from the 2nd gen service). they charged me like 120 for the service which was just oil change, tire rotation and some inspection. i think it's outrageos and now all i do is get the information off acura owner's like and have them perform whatever is described.

I've passed on most of the A and B services though I have been changing oil and filter every 4k and rotating tires regularly. Just had my first air filter replaced at 34k.

I dont know why they charge so much for rotation, unless they do alignment at the same time. In my school auto class, if a car is up on the lift for oil, it takes 2 other people about 5 minutes to rotate the tires.
