Auto trans gas mileage diffrence in sport mode?

Has anyone driven 1 whole tank in complete auto mode....and then tried another full tank in Sport Shift mode...and seen which one got more gas mileage?? just throwing out something to htink about....i guess it depends on how you drive....but if you didn't beat on it....and just drove normal...which one would you think got the better mileage? askin this only because i rarely use full auto mode...

i would think you would get better mileage in ss mode if you dont get on it like you said. you can control the rpms and keep them lower than the full auto would take them.

I doubt it, auto is pretty conservative with the RPMs, and if you switch gears earlier than you run the risk of lugging your motor.

I mean, not shifting at just over 2K rpms or sometihng but the rpms tend to go over 3K during normal driving. Just hit the shifter up when you're just over 2500 so it will shift around 27-2800.

I think you'll get more mileage leaving it auto.
SS will get less mileage.

I have no expeirence, but i would expect using SS to get more miles because you can control the rpm like what they said up there ^^ im still trying to get a TL, but i have an accord right now, and it always shifts at 3,000rpm which i think is kinda high. i'd shift at ~2,500 like what KSuchdeve said.

well sometimes in full auto...i notice when you wanna accelerate just a little...it feels slugish...like your going...but the engine's working too hard....and the auto wont downshift...where as if i were to downshift and stop the engine from lugging...it would save gas adn cut down on wear and tear....sound right?

The lugging is the torque converter and the fact that 4th and 5th gear are overdrive ratio- no power behind them
Use of normal auto will let the computer make 1000 decisions a minute about every little thing from speed, incline, torque, emssion feedback info to adjust itself and its shift points

Think you know as much about what happening as the computer??
If you see a hill or need to pass quickly- drop down to 4th or slip into ss and use 3rd if needed, that would be an extreme example

well the computer can only read engine and driver input/output....but the computer can't read road conditions and weather, for example driving in the snow on a hill...your wheels start to slip, and the tcs kicks in to stop the wheels from spinning...but now your stuck on a hill with no choice but to roll back....

the computer can't see a hill...Only that the TPS has increased as well as engine load, forcing a downshift, but its too late now...your already started the incline, and the computer wasn't quick enough to respond, now you take that same situation, and use SS mode, and downshift before the incline of the hill...no lugging of the engine, less stress for the engine, dont get me wrong....nothings faster than electricity, but you can only do soo many things at once....monitoring 4 wheel speeds, each and every rpm vs engine load vs 4 o2 sensors which are monitoring 6 pistons output of air/fuel, adjusting for each one of those pistons...and so on and so on....it might be the alchohol talking now...but im lost in my words....hahahha...later

Doesn't it depend on some other factors like where you will be driving to and outside temp. etc., just to name a few ...

Needless to say, my type-S isn't as good as my stock 00TL ..
