Auto headlights

I am new to the forum and to Acura. Just picked up a 06 TL w/Nav and the cars seems great after the 1st week. One complaint - No Auto Headlights. Did not even think to look when I tested the car because the 5 cars I have owned have had this feature.

Has anyone added auto headlights to their TL?

daytime running lights? no drl's...

read your owners manual.

the headlights are automatic. they turn off with the car. you can even set how long they stay on after you kill the ignition.

I think he meant the auto on/off headlights. Acura added that to the 07 TL's. The 04-06 only has auto off.

I did mean Auto on/off with a photo sensor. Keeping the light on all of the time does not do a lot of good because you can not seee the Nav screen during the day with the night settings.

Sure, but change the setting easily by hitting the "max" button on the dash. I do it all the time and its no problem.

Gotcha..a the 07 Odyssey we just got has this.

Problem is, I can't teach the wife to leave the stalk in the "auto" setting.

Very easy to add if you are at ease with the working of the electricals.

search for Directed Electronics Nite Lite module (Part # 545T)

http://www.directed.com/security/access/oaccess.asp

Can be wired directly at the light switch.

Best regards

Yeah, thank God they're not auto-on. Auto-off is good, though.

seriously...why is it that big of a deal? I'm a Nissan salesman and i HATE when people make a big deal about a car not having auto on/off headlights, and DRL's....most times its a reason they wont buy the car. how hard is it to notice when its dark and manually put the headlights on????

and if u go into setup screen on the nav, and take it off AUTO and put it on DAY, the screen won't go dim when you turn your headlights on during the day and you'll be able to see it.

The auto on/off is nice (I've got it on one of my cars), but not a biggie for me.

What DOES interest me, though, is if the HIDs are auto-leveling. Anybody know?

Yeah, the auto on/off is not a big deal. the auto off feature is good enough IMO.

Just out of curiosity: does anyone know if you use the light sensor assembly (Part# 39860-SEA-E51) from the 07-08 on an 04-06 if it would work, along with the turn signal assembly (Part# 35255-SEP-A11ZA) to get the "auto" notch on the stalk?
I noticed someone else did a workaround on this post, but I'd like to make it as smooth as possible, if it can be done.

I have an 05 TL and I manually turn on and off the headlights. Has not been a big deal to me, but seems odd since so many cars nowadays are automatic.

Then again, I just bought the car so I might not be aware of the feature if it has it.

I'm surprised people wouldn't buy a car because it doesn't have auto-on headlights. I don't really care about that feature at all, it's one of the most overrated options on the car.

I'm glad the car did not come with auto-on headlights.
I find it annoying...
It turns on to low-beams when it is not needed, sometimes.

My cousin has a 'o9 Corolla XRS and for some reason for another you CANNOT turn his lights on or off. There's almost no point to his light-stalk thing. It practically does nothing.

This is the first car in years that we've owned without the feature, and it's a nice feature to have, as most cars in the class have them, even econoboxes. Even our Jeep had the auto headlights and the option of lights on when the wipers are on.

At least if it had Auto headlights and if you didn't want to use the feature, just contiunue to turn the lights on and off manually.

Talking Just leave the headlight switch "on"?

OK, why not just leave the lights switched on all the time?
When the '04-06 TL driver's door is opened, the headlights will switch off. When you turn on the ignition, the lights switch back on.

Taadaa, auto on-off.

Just don't sit in the car with the radio on or ignition turned to "acc" position.

Yup, and the headlights, tailights will be on any time the ignition is on, e.g. all day long. Sorry, but that certainly isn't the answer.

if u leave the light on after the car is off the lights cut off when u lock it with the fob...then when u unlock it it cuts on automatically...if that what u mean..as far as the navi u can change that manually..

I dislike auto as well. They could turn on every time you pull in or out of your garage. Unfortunately, I wish it was the last setting on the stock. Now I have to pass by it every time I use my lights. Half the time, the lights turn off as I pass through auto, then the parking lights turn back on before I get to the off position. This tells me the sensor is mainly designed for night conditions. Maybe the auto feature is why many people drive in bad weather with no headlights.

So true, the auto setting should be the last setting on the stalk! And I think you're right about ppl driving in bad weather with no lights too. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but xenon lights need to warm up and it is bad to switch them on and off quickly. I see ppl on the auto setting have their head lights switch on and off under highway over passes all the time.

Ok guys this is simple. This post, from 2006, was not a question of whether you would like it or not. The question is, can it be done? Has anyone done it already? If so, how?

Personally, when I got an 09 TSX loaner, I loved the auto headlights...

Well, the headlights stay on when in auto and ignition is on, they only shut off after the ignition is off.

Just don't want to be driving around 24/7 with the headlights, tail lights, side markers as well as the fog lights on.
I realize I could turn the fogs off, but that's manual once again.

The headlights are useless during the day. So it's gotta be for 'safety.' Might as well have everything on.

As for me, if it's not dark, the lights don't come on. This isn't Sweden.
