The Art of Negotiating

The dealer closest to my home has a very good service department,
and I would like to continue to maintain a good relationship with them.
If there is warranty work etc. to be performed, I'd like to go to this
dealer. But they will not negotiate on the price of a new car, so I plan to go
elsewhere for purchase.

What is the relationship between the Sales Department & Service
Department at a dealership?

Has anybody run into problems not getting adequate service because
they negotiated too hard, walked, and did not purchase the vehicle
for the dealer ?

I bought my car in Cincy and get my TL serviced in Indianapolis (where they wouldn't deal but had decent service) and they treat me as they would all their customers. In fact, I would say that when you bring your car in to get it serviced, they could care less where you bought it since they get paid by Acura for the warranty work.

I would have no regrets doing what you want to do.....so buy it and have it serviced elsewhere and enjoy!!!!

My understanding is that the service department and the sales department are under different "cost center" if you will. Therefore the tend to operate fairly independant of each other. Now if you do something to really screw someone in the sales department, you may have something to worry about. Anyone else care to elaborate? I know there are a couple of people that actually work at an Acura dealership.

If the service center doesn't treat you well, I assume you won't go back. Therefore, they should treat you well.

They are completely independent, and it's CERTAINLY in their best interest to service your car properly regardless of where you bought it. If Sales won't negotiate, they deserve to rot anyway, greedy baastards. Take your sale elsewhere if they are that stupid.

One of the basics I've learned about car buying is that never let your emotions get in the way. My wife learned this the hard way when she bought her MDX; now we're stuck paying more than we have to.

Regardless, I'm sure your service dept. won't turn you away even if you didn't buy a car from them; even if you do I'm sure other dealers will have comparable if not better service than them. Remember these dealers are out to get your money, it's up to you how much you want to give them. They don't eat until you give them your business. You're in control
