Anyone use Costco to purchase 04?

I've seen in other forums Costco members getting anywhere from $300 to $1k off of MSRP. Has anyone here purchased via the Costco route? I was at my local dealer the other day and I saw a TSX there that had the Costco paperwork on the window so someone's done it.

Lightbulb Checking out Costco

Hey...

Thanks for the heads up. I ordered a 2004 TL from a local dealership last month. Should arrive the week of Dec. 8th. But now that I see Costco sells cars too, I'm going to try that and see if I get a better deal.

I'll report back as soon as I have more information!

When I was at my dealer, they showed me the Costco price list effective through Jan 04 and the TL has no discount.

I just checked with the manager (friends father)

I mentioned to him that although MSRP is okay, will Costco price be better. He did the numbers and came with a price of $300 above the MSRP.

If he is accurate, it is astounding how people here in Hawaii is willing to pay.

You're right...Metro Acura in Montclair, CA told me that they get some shoppers from Hawaii that purchase cars from them and then have them shipped because of the high prices. You might want to call them...that's where I bout my '04 RSX Type S and '04 TL 6MT.

No discount yet... apparently.

Just got an email back from a local Acura dealer and they say they aren't offering any discounts off of MSRP on the '04 TL. I'm guessing that the non-navi TL's will be discounted first when the discounts do come, because there are a LOT of non-navi '04 TL's sitting on Chicago area dealer lots. I pass by Continental everyday on my way to work, and they have had the same inventory of non-navis on their lot for two weeks now. But in the last two months I have only seen two navis on their lot and both had sold tags on them. If you want a non-navi, you might be able to get a discount. Who knows.

I looked for a Costco discount when I bought my TL at the end of October, but they didn't seem to offer any for it. Coscto/Amex helped me save a lot on my insurance tho'.

The Costco purchase for any Acura is a JOKE.....
The best they could do 2004 TL w/Nav is $200 - $300 off MSRP. For non Nav is $1000 off MSRP.
Your best bet is to sit with the sales guy. Take up half of his and your day. And don't forget to set in the car you want and DON"T let anyone else look at it.

That's how I purchase my 2004 TL w/Nav for $38,350 out the door (tax, license, & fees included)

Thanks guys for the feedback!! I'm in a quandry right now. I like the TL but I just can't swallow MSRP. In my mind what did they do to earn my business. Alot of the dealers are saying here's the car, take you for a test drive and for that I'm susposed to pay sticker. Not in my book.

I'm also shopping the used market (e.g. 03' Infinit g35 coupe, 03' BMW 330 ZHP, and a 02' 540 speed). The bimmers are my first choice seeing as I would buying those via dealer's auction but I can't even find them. I'm a patient fellow but it's beginning to run dry. What's a brother to do?

Thanks!!

Lightbulb Paying MSRP - A Justification

Yes, I too really love the Acura TL and yet have the same hesitation about paying full MSRP. It does feel, in a certain way, unfair. It seems that we have become accustomed to paying prices under MSRP because, well - that's just the way it usually works. However, here's they way i'm thinking about my 2004 TL purchase. (I have one on order to be delivered in early December.)

Take the terminology out of the equation and don't think about the actual dealer vs. MSRP pricing. Now look at the features of the car and comapre it to other cars that are truly comparably equipped. The prices of those cars (BMW, Mercedes, Etc...) fall thousands upon thousands of dollars above the full MSRP price of the '04 TL. Comparing the vehicle in this manner makes the MSRP of the Acura look like a comparable bargain.

Another way of looking at it -- Compared to the more expensive competition and taking into account all of the TL's "bells and whistles," if the 2004 TL with Navigation had an MSRP of $37,350.00 and the dealer came down to a price of $35,350.00 (Actual MSRP)... would you be happy with the car and the deal? I think given all of the TL's features, it is competitively priced at MSRP.

Hope this reasoning might help you out.

Interesting reasoning. It would make more sense if the prices were going to stay at MSRP. The TL is a volume car for Acura - not limited production. Within six months dealer's will start to get aggressive with pricing which pretty much shoots your rationale. The real value question everyone needs to ask is it worth the bucks to get the car now vs. waiting a bit for a deal.

BarryH:

I agree with you... Of course if you wait long enough the prices will come down, but that wasn't my point. Heck - if you wait long enough most any car will be worthless. However, I doubt that the TL will be discounted at all within the next six months (at least for the model with navigation, non-nav models are likely to come down a little). The MDX took well over a year - nearly two years in some markets - before dealers would even consider giving a discount.

My point was, that the car is priced decently, even at MSRP. Plus, Acura is not known to give significant discounts on stock that is selling well. I'm sure you could find a GREAT deal on a 2003 TL right now because there's a lot of them parked on Acura lots and there is very little demand for them.

I was also responding to the fact that a lot of people, even on this particular message board, have said they opted to buy Mercedes and BMW rather than pay MSRP for an Acura, even though some of the models they say they bought cost easily $10,000 more than the '04 TL and have fewer features.

I'm just saying that MSRP for the TL may not be as bad a deal as you think if you don't want to wait til the end of next year for a discount. If you have the money... I wouldn't sweat it.

Here in Charrlotte MDX's are still going for sticker. When i bought my 03' TLS when they first came out, I didn't get much off. Dam Acura dealer here has a monopoly on it. No other dealers around. Closest is 100 miles.
