Anyone successful in getting E-Brake tightened?
Anyone successful in getting E-Brake tightened?
Anyone have the dealer fix the e-brake? I read some posts where others like me had an e-brake that does nothing. I thought someone said they had it tightened, but it was no good again in a few weeks? Is this another major problem like the tires - what is so hard about tightening an emergency brake? Glad it is not a stick or I'd really be in trouble. Just curious if it is worth taking it in to the dealer. Not into having it get fixed multiple times if there is a design flaw and we need to wait for a TSB or something...
Thanks. :banghead:

They and the regional said it was "normal"
They did tighten it up so it took less clicks for it to engage though.
No, I mean I put the car in neutral and put the e-brake on and if I release the regular foot brake - she goes rolling down my driveway! I'm guessing that is diff. than yours - cause I will tell Acura right now - that is not normal.
I hate when the dealers talk to us like we are friggin stupid.

About making it tighter....if you take the wheel off, there should be a hole with a ruber cover. Take the cover off and insert a flat head screw driver and push up or down, it should click making it tight or loose. I'm not sure if the 04 uses the same e-brake as the RSX which uses a screw type piston, but there are not shoes....it uses the same caliper for e-brake.....don't know how to adjust those.

Yes, it is easy to say it is "normal"
Mine only does not lock fast enough before the parking gear catches on a down hill (uphill is ok).
But from day 1, I had to pull hard, all the way up, it looked silly, after adjustment, at least I did not have to go up as much.
Yours sounds completely out of adjustment.
Good luck!

The TL has a parking brake drum in the rear wheels, separate from the calipers.
Minor adjustment is made at the parking brake lever. The normal range is 6-10 clicks. If it is more, then adjustment is needed.
Raise the car and place on jack stands
Release parking brake lever fully
Open console box lid and remove console mat
Remove the lid to access the adjusting nut
Pull the parking brake lever one click
Tighten the adjusting nut until the parking brake drags slightly when the rear wheels are turned
Release the parking brake lever fully and check that the parking brakes do not drag when the rear wheels are turned. Readjust if necessary
Make sure the parking brakes are fully applied when the parking brake lever is pulled all the way
Reinstall center console lid and console mat
The service manual says the major adjustment is to be done when replacing parking brake shoes and after lining surface break-in.
Briefly, the procedure is to remove the rear wheel, and there is an access plug. Remove that and use a flat tip screwdriver to turn the ratchet teeth until the shoes contact the brake drum, then back off the adjuster 8 clicks and replace the access plug
Then do the minor adjustment procedure.
