I wonder how it looks like...

... not me... just talked to ACS today, who told me that mail to the first group of recall 04TLs were just sent last week... we even don't know who's in this group.

But I have heard someone getting his car checked and installed the oil jet kit already last week.

nick04tl, how does your dealer proceed this recall? I mean you will order the part after the customers call for an appointment? or order the part after finishing the inspection?

Or you will get part and recall list from Acura at the same time, then actively call customers to schedule for the inspection?

Thanks...

i think we have about 150 of these oil jet kits in stock. we pull the cars in and do the inspection part first. if second gear looks good then we install the oil jet kit. if the gear is bad we order a trans. i have done about 20 of these recalls and about 18 of them were mdxs and i have only had to put 1 trans in. it happened to be an mdx with over 70,000 miles on it. actually all cars with less than 15,000 miles on the odometer dont even get then inspection. on those we just install the oil jet kit. the dealer actually does not send out the letters. acura takes care of that and im not sure of how they do it. they probably send out a certain number eveyday so the dealerships dont get flooded with cars. our dealer however does a vin status check on any car that comes in for service that maybe included in the recall and if it is we just go ahead and perform the recall.

I hate my dealer, who claims they're best in LI and they don't have any oil jet kits in stock yet and won't get any until the end of July. It's time to consider the new dealership for Acura's warranty service. Maybe I should drive to Philly and check on you... 200 miles round-trip isn't too far for this particular inspection...

Thanks for this detailed disclosure...

Just set up an appt at Goodson to get my '00 done. This is in the Dallas area. I've called periodically since the announcement and no luck, but today was the day! I have a TSX to play with for the day. I'm at 90K; I hope I get a replacement for safety's sake. I couldn't imagine just adding an oil jet kit after this many miles....

Well just called Hoehn Acura in Carlsbad Ca and they said for me to bring in my car tomorrow. They don’t need the recall letter and said it should be done by the end of the day. Thought I would let you guys know. Peace.

I haven't received my letter yet, but my dealer already has some kits and has reserved one for me for next week. We'll see if they keep a kit reserved.

90k miles? That's nothing. You should go to the 2G board and read about chuckstl. He just passed 180 000 miles in his 2000 TL. His tranny gave up the ghost at 165 000 miles!!!!!! And his dealer replaced it at no cost IIRC! He'll probably pass through 200k before fall at this rate.

I nominate him for an Acura commercial.

Good one... Thanks very much.

Again, ACS/Dealer/nhtas have harangued their own description again. ACS told me twice that they just mailed part of recall letters since last week. My stupid dealer said they won't start to do it until the end of July. NHTAS' database indicates the mail would not be sent out until the end of July.

However, more and more 04TLers have been receiving the insepction and had oil jet kit installed since last week.

What the world...

I am in the recall range and have a dilemma. I am pretty close to the 15K threshold, which is the mileage where the dealer is required to inspect the transmission. I would like to have the transmission inspected since it appears Acura is not extending the warranty. I will definitely make sure that the car has over 15K miles before bringing it in for the recall. Does anybody with mileage under 15k feel uncomfortable with their transmission not being inspected?

I am at 12,500 miles. VIN is 18XXX. I agree with you. I will wait 2,500 miles to get it inspected if necessary. Or maybe just ask my dealer what their procedures are now. I'm sure dealers do things differently.

I'm in the same boat, too. In the end of July, my mileage will exceed 15k mark, which Acura says it's the critical "milestone". Acura says:

Vehicles with less than 15,000 miles - The technician will update the transmission with a simple modification to the oil cooler return line to increase lubrication to second gear.

Vehicles with more than 15,000 miles - The technician will inspect the second gear for discoloration of the gear due to heat damage. If there is any evidence of heat damage, the transmission will be replaced. If discoloration is not present, the dealer will perform the modification to the oil cooler return line.

Some dealers in nationwide have stocked tons of the oil jet kit (check #5 post of this thread, and his dealer isn't the only one), and are willing to do the better services.

I have no idea why Acura likes to mention this 15k stuff. If not, we "might" feel better even though the recall letter is not arrived yet.

Maybe, michaelvg1's dealer is the choice for me...

I took mine in for the first oil change today and mentioned that I was part of the 04 transmission recall. I didn't expect anything as I was told by Acura that a letter would be sent within 3 months. When I picked the car up the oil jet kit was installed and they told me to ignore the letter when it came. They also inspected the transmission first. Nice to have a great dealer.

Glad to know your TL has been taken care of, Jss1. Did you know any specific info about Canadian 04TL's VINs range? Thanks.

More and more 04TLers got the oil jet kit installed without those hassels with dealers...

Sorry I don't know the range. I had to give them my VIN number and they knew right away. Mine is 00926 in the Canadian series. Everyone should just call Acura customer relations and find out from the source. No big deal at all.

I brought in my car for the "B" service and the recall today. Because I had 12710 miles at the time of the inspection, they did the oil jet inspection, then inserted the 2nd gear oil jet. I also had the rear seat clips replaced (the dealer broke them when they installed my A-Spec suspension kit) and had the rearview mirror inspected--it had stopped dimming over the weekend, imagine that! The part will be available in a few days.

I have the oil jet kit installed this morning. FINALLY.

Also, the dealer gave me the first-page of copy of this TSB, 04-020. I'll scan and post it tonight 9 PM.

I tried to keep it low and not to exceed 15k mark... I don't like to be the first example for the dealer to shoot the picture...

I’ve attached this TSB (the first page of 12 totals) below in order to provide more detailed info to those early VIN 5AT owners who has their trannies recalled.
  1. As it states, 2004 TL 5ATs, From VIN 19UUA66..4A000001 thru 19UUA66..4A014224, will be affected, however, it also indicates that “Not all vehicles within the VIN ranges are affected by this recall…”, please call ACS or have your dealer to check its eligibility first.
  2. According to federal law, these vehicles cannot be sold or leased until they are repaired. If you buy a 04TL 5AT with the affected VIN, your car should be fixed and updated prior to selling to you.
  3. There is no external way to tell if a remanufactured A/T has been updated. Only computer records from Acura and dealership could tell if this 5AT has been installed the oil jet kit or replaced by the remanufactured tranny.
  4. Take a look the part “Vehicles with 15k miles or less” and “Vehicles with more than 15k miles”, the huge difference of works and inspections need to be done.

Can't Acura ever built an Automatic Transmission that doesn't have a recall?? I'm glad I got a 6MT this time around.

i bought my tl late in the year (may) and my vin ...A045921 is not in the recall.

i'm very surprised that many did not already get a recall letter. when my 4runner had rear spring issue i received recall letter from Toyota USA just days after the TSB/Recall was published by toyota (seemed like toyota already had the letters ready to be mailed). i saw tsb online but my toyota dealer did not know about it yet. why has acura not done this??

so what was done in the way of shop work, do they yank the tranny ?? i hate having such major work done to a new vehicle.

TSB Service Done

Called my dealer a couple of weeks ago without the letter. He had the part and installed it in about an hour. Great service.
