Anyone CLAY in the MD area?

Im looking to clay my car for the first time to remove any nasty contaminants on the coat before the snow starts coming down. .wait let me rephrase. .
Im looking for someone TO clay my car since I have no idea what Im doing and I dont want to take the chance of messing it up.

So, does anyone know of a local MD detailer that will do this?
Anyone interested in making a few bucks by doing it and letting me watch and learn? I will provide your beverage of choice as well =)

Please? Im a nice girl I SWEAR!

Keep the surface area lubricated and it's pretty much dummy proof; however, it's nice to see fellow Aziners offering to help you.

Good luck!

I don't think you could mess up clay barring a car if you worked at it.

The clay bar kit should have directions. Just don't use a buffer to apply it.

It is very simple. Most important keep the clay and paint lubricated. It takes practice, but nothing hard. Try claying your car at least twice a year. Remember once you clay the entire car, there is no longer any more protection (wax). Claying will strip most of the wax off. Be sure to wax the car afterwards. You will see the results, and it will be smooth as glass. Speaking of glass...... you can also clay your windows, especially the windshield. There is a lot of crap that does not come off during regular washing.

1. Wash car
2. Clar car
3. Wash car
4. Polish
5. Wax

I can do these 5 steps within 3 hours, since I've done this with the previous car I owned. I have not clayed my TL yet, and I'm looking forward too since the paint is feeling a little ruff.....

I nanny for a 7 and 10 year old. They are always wanting to "help" me wash the car but they end up making me paranoid with their dangling bracelets DANGEROUSLY close to the paint =)

Do you have a garage? Are you avail next weekend? I will be up in Columbia

I'm in Germantown and I can show you how to do it. I'll can do a couple of panels and supervise rest of the way.

You would need to get claybar and lubricant. Get a big bottle of maguire's quck detailing spray for lubricant.

Come to think of it I have a bottle, I can let you have that one.

If you're interested we can meet this weekend, weather permitting. I need to wash my car as well.

I rewash the car to get rid of all the loose dirt from the paint. This is a good prepping process prior to applying polish.

Car Polish is NOT A WAX. Let me make this simple....car polish is to bring back the "shine" on your car. Wax is to protect and seal the polish and paint. They say you should wax your car like every 6 months. I don't believe that since it rains a lot in Florida. Remember... everytime you wash, or wipe your car down.. it is removing a layer of wax. So I usually wax about 2 a month. Call me crazy, but I love my car to look good!!!

Let you watch!!?? C'mon now, well it this will be a test to find out how many members were born yesterday. Well, if by some chance you aren't able to get somebody to do this for you. Here's another link that will helphttp://www.autopia-carcare.com/detailingclay.html
Good Luck, and by the way, my golden has a problem with her anal glands, my vet showed me how to express them, but if you can come up and demonstrate that would be a big help. I too am a visual person.

you don't have to wash your car again after you clay - the polish will remove the clay residue

Polish means getting the swirl marks off the finish. It's different than wax which only protects the paint. Polishing is what gives you the shine, wax protects the shine afterwards. It's important to wash after you clay to remove the clay. Clay is slightly abrasive, and any traces of clay remaining will result in more swirl marks if you wax over the clay. It's VERY important to wash after you clay...VERY IMPORTANT. Polishing is only necessary if you're not happy with the shine, have swirl marks or oxydation on the paint. There are several good polish products on the market. My car is new, doesn't have any swirl marks, so I skip the polish and just use Zaino on the paint. I've got over 5 coats, and the magic doesn't start with Zaino until you get several layers built up. The shine is incredible with this stuff if done properly. Do a search of "Zaino101" for instructions on using the product properly. It's in the wash&wax section of this forum.

^ I used Mothers Clay system....I followed the directions step by step:
wash
clay and wipe excess lubricant
wax

My car came out smoother than a baby butt! No swril marks and shinier than ever!

The only thing I hated was buffing of the wax, after I buffed it , it left alot white dust all over the place...So i got into the car and floored it to around 80ish mph and wiped off whatever didnt come off (which wasn't much).

You don't need to re-wash after claying. Polishing will remove any excess clay from the vehicle's surface. Polishing, BTW, will remove surface contamination, surface imperfections, light scratches, waterspots and swirls. It is also used as a pre-wax cleaner to improve reflectivity and gloss. There are basically two types of polish, one is a chemical cleaner with no abraisives and primarily used for surface prep (AIO, Megs DC, PB Pro Polish). The other one uses diminishing abraisives (Optimum Polish, PB SSR, 4 Star SMR) for removal of surface imperfections. Just remember to start with the least abraisive and work your way up. Also, if using a PC, the aggressiveness of the pad will make a difference.
