Anybody Have Dealer Installed Alarm?
If so, does it work with the original keyfob or did they give you a new remote.
How much did the dealer charge and what alarm did they use. Any and all info is appreciated.

Correct me if I am wrong, I don't think you need one. But if you go with aftermarket ones you will have many remote controls to deal with...too much trouble

Yes it does, but it's very basic, meaning there is no shock or motion sensors.
Anyway, my dealer wants to install one for me at a cost of $500 which I think is way too much.

I don't see how installing aftermarket alarm system is a waste of money (though, acura911, 350 bucks seems like a bit on the expensive side). There are a few reasons I'd like to install an aftermarket alarm.
1. Auto-lock after X seconds if I forget to lock the car.
2. Shock or motion sensor.
3. The lock confirmation is louder than the mere beep we currently get.
Of course, there are also downsides. Someone mentioned carrying an extra remote as a reason. Money is also reason (yeah, may not be much, but...). Another that I can think of would be whether installing an aftermarket alarm would interfere with some of the existing functions on our key fobs (e.g., rolling down the windows with the unlock button).
However, to each his/her own.

I got the KARR (?) Alarm upgrade:
Basically a shock/impact sensor upgrade with an insurance policy built in to the pricetag.
Same keyfob.
If the car gets stolen (if it even moves 1 inch under some shitheads ability, I consider it being stolen), in the next three years, I get a brand new replacement vehicle of that year.
If it gets stolen on December 23 2006, I will be given a 2007 Acura TL W/Navi.
Is it worth it?
I'll let you know in about three years...

I live local to you, where did you happen to get that alarm upgrade, and are there any add'l features that they included, like auto start, or add'l horn? Just looking for some 411? Thanks

Sold through Thomas Acura-Covina.
My friend at South Bay Acura didn't have knowledge of it, so it might be a dealer exclusive item????
No additional items--probably wasn't worth it, but I'll see...

I don't mean to throw salt on the wound but $700 seems a bit steep.
Check out this thread for a price quote.

There may be other options that cost more money which I don't know about.
