Another TL road trip

Well I took the car from NJ to Chicago (via Cleveland OH and Waterloo IN) 2 months ago. This time I'm departing NJ for Boston MA! Wish me luck. Expect planking photos when I return on 7/6.

That's a pretty short ride. Hope you have a lot of fun. Drivers up there (dc and north) are fucking crazy. Drive safe.

How far are you from Cream Ridge, NJ? I had my motor in the z built over there at East Coast Supercharging.

be safe out there, the TL is a great travel car. I've done some long trips this summer and still have one more big trip (over 2000 miles around trip). The TL has my nerves at ease when i'm on the road, juss the other people you have to watch out for lol

D40 FTW. Thanks for sharing. The fireworks pics turned out nice.

Not sure why, but the planking pics make me lol.

haha thanks guys, yeah I'm reaching the limits of the D40 sometimes, like trying to deal with very contrasty scenes. It is very capable though and worthy of upgrading your glass before upgrading your body.

Couple things can help with high contrast scenarios. #1, shoot RAW so you can adjust the exposure compensation (if needed) on your computer. #2, shoot in exposure-bracketing mode so you can do HDR merges. IMO, contrast is a good thing in most situations. I usually find myself bumping up the contrast levels in PS when I'm editing photos.

Just to rub it in, the D90 and other prosumer Nikon models have an "Active D-Lighting" mode which helps balance out the shadows and highlights in contrasty settings.

I never ever shoot in RAW, so I bet you're right about that. The D40 doesn't do bracketing, so it would be a manual process. Hence it may be time to step up from the D40! Thanks for the tips, now I'll have some more reading and drooling to do over new camera goodies.

Oh, never knew the D40 doesn't have a bracketing mode. In that case, if you shoot RAW, you can use Nikon Capture (or any RAW editor) and create/save several versions of the same photo at different exposure levels and do an HDR merge from there.

Try shooting a few stops down - 1 or 2. Always easier to lighten shadows where as it's impossible to pull back over exposed highlights.

www.nnstudios.com Some shot of the ocean and sunset that were done w/ bracketing. I need to get some nice shot of my car!
