Another Tint Question, Moleskin alternative, shop in Brooklyn

Hi all,

I've been perusing this forum for a while, but I don't think I've posted anything yet.

I have read many previous posts regarding tinting and overall I'm more conffused than enlighened.

I plan on going with a dye tint (3M I think), but I am worried about scratching. I've went to a few places in Brooklyn, but most do not seem to know anything about it, and I don't like the idea of using such a place. I went to one place right across from the Acura dealrship on Nostrand aveneue (if anyone is familiar) and they never heard of this problem with an Acura, but do use a velcro strip to prevent scratching in other cars. Would this do the job? They charge 180 + 40 for the velcro. They use Lumar or Sunguard.

TLXLR8S mentioned a place on Ocean Avenue that focuses on high end cars where they do it for under 200. I PMd him but I guess he isnt around here or isnt answering. If anybody has an idea of where he is talking about I'd greatly appreciate it if they can clue me in. Or if anyone has other shops that are reliable and knowledgable (preferably close to the areas I've mentioned) I'd be grateful.

Also, I understand that the windows are already tinted a bit so the percentages are darker than they would otherwise. For this reason I'm thinking of using 35 all around (closer to legal) but is that too light still? Does anyone have pictures of 35 tint?

I really appreciate any help you guys can give.

There's a place in your neck of the woods called Art of Tint that someone mentioned in a post and they were very happy with the result. I don't remember what brand of tint they used and if memory serves me, they also installed moleskin.

The stock windows are tinted at about 75%. This is gochan's TL tinted with F1 Pinnacle 35. As far as the 3M film goes, a few members have them. I think it's the CS film and more info can be found here. The degree of darkness is a personal preference, some are satisfied with the tint being in the 20 to 35% range while others like 5-15%. If you desire privacy, by all means, go for it. Hope this helps. Don't forget to poxt some pics.

hpny, a velcro strip (the smooth one) would work as good as the moleskin.

The store TLXLR8S talked about is using SunGard Desert Smoke II and M... something. You have to ask him to put the moleskin for you.

Thanks

Thanks for the help. I called Tom at the Art of Tint, and he relly seemed to know his what he is talking about. He's pretty busy (partly due to traffic from this site, he said), and I'm going out of town, so I might have to wait a few weeks to get it done, but I think I'm gonna go with him. I'll post pics up then.

Thanks!

Art of Tint?

You're not talking about "TOM" the tinter close to Coney Island Avenue on the way to Shepshead Bay? Are You? Cause he's the one supposedly doing all the tints for dealer "Acura of Manhattan" and he's the guy that cut out my stinking window blades to avoid the tints getting scratched. Check out other posts and you'll find my story about the tints he put on my 05'TL

I hope not

Did you use Art of Tint? Cause that's who I called and there was a guy Tom there. He said he is only in Brooklyn on Satrudays. Can you post any links to your saga. I haven't seen that. I really don't want to mess this up. Thanks

We do the tint job using moleskin for 200. We go behined the rubber so no lines on the quater windows. The tint is all the way up leaving no gap at all the back is in one piece we use Johnsons tint. Come over and check my 2005 tl and the tint job on it. 812 Mcdonald Ave Mobile Electronics of NY 718-851-4817.
