Another stolen wheels thread.

Another stolen wheels thread.-image.jpg

Sunday the wifey and I went Milford Mall out here in Connecticut to pick up a few things. About an hour later we came out to see this! My heart just dropped, I had wheel locks and all which leads me to assume that these crooks have kept watching my car for quite some time. This happened in broad daylight between 3-4PM. To make matters worst my insurance are only trying to pay a percentage of the cost for my wheels because their excuse is that I've had the OEM wheels since 2007 so they depreciate in value overtime. I find this to be complete BS. Still in the works with them to have them replace it minus deductible. I mean why an I paying or full coverage for anyways? Wifey told me at least no one was get which she is completely correct but this still angers me. Sorry, I just figured I share my story.

Keep an eye on CL locally in case they try and sell them for quick cash.

sorry man.

locks dont stop thieves. a hammer and a socket will take off the locks in an instant.

and I didnt think wheels could depreciate.
your insurance company is on the hook for a brand new set of wheels

Wow, I'm sorry to see

Insurance should pay for the wheels since they are OEM.

Sorry to hear, but most insurance companies force you to pay extra to have coverage on mods. But I would try to see if you can talk to another person at your insurance to see if they can help out. Possibly threaten to go to another company if they won't give in

^ true but his OEM wheels were stolen. Should be covered less deductible if applicable.

Yeah.

I'm looking through my phone and at first it looked like he had some aftermarket wheels. But after zooming in it was the oem wheels.

also, the parking garage didnt have cameras?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!

I would have filed a police report, notified my insurance, and asked to review the security footage( even tho, it rarely gets shown to non-law enforcement)

Thieves need to get their hands broken

Insurance is giving you the run around. Keep fighting them until they cover it completely.

Terrible. Hope you can either find your wheels or insurance gets their head out of their ass and covers a new set for you.

Tires would depreciate, but not the rims. Now they may want to replace them with used rims instead of new, and that will depend on the verbiage used within your policy. Every ins company is different and it can vary state by state as well as what your specific policy states. This would be no different than if your bumper was damaged. They do pro-rate those, they just may replace it with a used part. Non-wear items should not be pro-rated.

Sorry to see this happen and hopefully the ins company will figure it out and get you taken care of.

Sorry to see that OP. Not sure what insurance you have, but I have Geico and have only had one claim in years. It was my 08 Grand Cherokee SRT8...driving home at night going over a hill and I hit a large rock in the road that was unavoidable. Blew two run flat tires and bent two of my OEM 19" wheels. Geico adjuster came to my house they wrote me up a check on the spot for msrp cost of new wheels from the dealership!!!! I was blown away by their service.

I hope someone steals my wheels haha. Insurance to pay new retail on wheels/tires, then buy a nicely used set for 25% of the price and pocket the rest. And wheel locks are completely worthless.

I feel you bro. Definitely file a police report. Tires certainly wear/tear, but like stated above, it depends on the wording in your insurance policy. This happened to me and they said I was entitled to "OEM remanufactured" wheels. Since they couldn't find a set of those, I ended up with brand new wheels and tires and all I had to pay was the deductible. I didn't have to argue with my insurance company (State Farm) at all. I just had to argue a lot with the body shop to make sure they didn't fuck anything up.

When I had to replace wheels my insurance wouldn't replace with new, only refurbished.

Having a dash cam would be nice to get the thieves on video.

Sorry to see this!!! Wow Milford mall in the daytime??? Just proves this can happen anywhere.

In 1992 my car was stolen from the Danbury Mall when I came out of work. That really shook me up because I didn't expect it to happen in the daytime and I didn't park it in the garage. In those days crime was high and 80s GM cars were REAL easy to steal. In later years I had a hoopdie Cadillac that I didn't mind if it got stolen. I would use the parking garage just so I can keep it out of the hot sun. But that parking garage just always seemed shady. A little to easy for theft to happen.

Today the mall "seems" to be safer, and much better lit. But I STILL don't trust it because of that old memory. I hardly go to the mall nowadays, but if I do, I park as close to the building as possible and leave it as short a time as possible.

Last week I did park my TL in the mall garage on a Sunday in the daytime. After seeing this thread, man, I don't think my TL is going to be parked at the mall anymore!

Not to get anyone paranoid but we have to be vigilant.

A few months ago in NJ I went into a store to buy a softie ice cream cone. Went back to the car and was trying to eat it quickly before in melted. My car was parked out in the wide open at the extreme end of a Walmart parking lot.

I'm sitting in the car, windows rolled up, doors locked. A guy casually strolls by. Walking as if he was going towards Walmart like anyone else. He then swiftly changes direction and walks toward my car. I'm watching him the whole time but didn't think anything till he got to the side of my hood. He was trying to be slick and not make it noticeable that his eyes were scanning and scoping around the parking lot. So much so that he didn't see ME sitting inside the car behind the tinted windows. He then glances down and sees me licking my ice cream and gets shocked. All of a sudden he does a 180 and walks the opposite direction and cuts ACROSS the parking lot. An old red Ford panel van trolling around pulls up and he jumps in the side door. It's all happening faster than I can process before I realize what could have just happened. At that moment I got so pissed, I threw my ice cream out the window and started my car to run up on them. But the van took off like a BOH. Then I came to my senses and said; what am I doing? OK the car is fine, they could be armed. It's not worth it. But what if I had not been sitting in the car? I was just lucky that time, that's all.

Anyways just know, these guys are all over the place and they are looking out for our cars. Be careful where you park!

Yeah there is a little under body damage from how they jacked the car up. But besides that thankfully everything was fine. My uncle had an extra set of wheels laying around so I threw those on and drove the car home.

I did file a police report and apparently where I parked a there was a pillar blocking view of the 360 degree camera. Although they claim to have every other stationary cameras, mall security would not disclosed where they were. I will have them look at all cameras of all cars going in and out between this time frame.

There were cars parked behind in the area behind me. I just parked in the open space.

Thanks everyone though for your concerns. I will keep fighting with my insurance to get my wheels replaced completely minus my deductible.

Sorry to hear OP, what I find weird is that nobody saw anything in a Mall!?!?

Or at least saw it and informed security. Cause they at least spent a good 5 to 10 minutes in each wheel lock.

^sadly, the car was parked in a desolate area, as you can see in the pic.

with cars behind him.

a crime of opportunity.
the thief knew how long it would take to pop the locks and had a clear view of oncoming traffic, cars and pedestrians included.
they obviously followed him up to the empty parking garage.

This is complete BS. I would be beyond furious. Make sure hwo they propped the car up didn't damage or bend anything underneath. You can cause serious damage to these suckers by lifting them incorrectly. In reguards to the insurance company I would inform them what was on the car is exactly what will be going back on it. You bought it with NEW wheels on it, this is how it should be returned to you. No point in full coverage if it doesn't cover this kind of stuff. I completly understand your frustration. Hope all works out for you.
