Mine today at 11:30AM at the Hamilton, NJ WalMart. I was in there for 30 minutes and when I came out...gone! I reported it to security and the police. They looked at the video, watched it in action, but were unable to see the license plate of the car in which the 2 'misguided youths' sat. Apparently, they pulled near my car, went in the store, came back out, and took the roof spoiler (apparently within seconds). It was the eBay version from Kyonick (the eBay vendor). I liked it for as long as I had it (about a year and a half). Now I guess it'll reside on some POS car in Trenton. The only 2 good things I can see here are that the spoiler was $105 including painting and shipping, and more importantly, when they removed it, the thieves didn't cause any damage and they didn't break my rear window (the spoiler was held on with the double sided 3M tape, but no adhesive promoter).

I wish these youths only the worst karma that can happen to them. Hopefully, they will try to take something from someone while someone is watching and get the crap kicked out of them.

I won't be replacing the spoiler, as much as I liked the appearance:

Apparently, even if they were charged with the theft it's a 4th degree crime, so just above a misdemeanor.

why does it always gotta be about Jersey. Hamilton, which the OP is talking about and which I also live in, is a really nice place along with Lawrence, Princeton, East and West Windsor and the like - I find it funny that the places in NJ that are nasty are close to NY and Philadelphia, spill over perhaps?

But, the Walmart is a shit hole. Are you talking about the one next to BJ's in Hamilton Market place? I hate that freakin store. I dunno what's worse, the parking lot or the cashiers - I love how there is one lane open whether it's July 22nd or Christmas eve.

 

^^This is the one- I'm sure it's transients from Trenton that came into Hamilton, and unfortunately, a roof spoiler is an easily removed item. That's why I'm not replacing it. It's not worth the hassle. Well, that and I won't be going back to that store. The police officer said there's really no way to charge the people who took it as they have a facial pic on the video, but no ID for them, plus no license plate number. So, I guess they really did get away with it. I'm just happy no other damage was done. It could have been much worse.

A police buddy of mine always tells me that a bad penny always turns up. I'm sure this will happen here as well- they'll get caught for something else in the future. I just hope someone hands them their collective asses when it happens.

I'm worried about this too because mine is loose. I don't park long anywhere I don't want to but it can happen within 5 mins by just turning your head. I am changing my spoiler to a type-S one tomorrow and going to use 3M window weld on both spoilers.

And BTW I was in a Walmart parking lot 2 days ago in Jersey at around 10pm. I parked away and my car was quite visible under the lights. I was sitting in the car waiting for someone. I wasn't there even 5 mins when some dude starts walking towards my car in a shady/crooked way scanning with his eyes around the parking lot. He was checking out my car and came real close to the hood till he saw me sitting in it. (I have light tints on my car) Then he tried to slickly play it off and walked towards the Walmart. He walks about 100ft. then suddenly changed directions, crossed to another lane and jumped into a car someone was driving..........Tell me that wasn't shady? It looked pretty obvious they targeted my car and were up to no good. What if I was in the store? Yep watch out in Jersey for sure!

I'm actually glad I didn't use adhesive promoter as I probably would have lost the back glass if the numbnuts pulled up hard enough on the roof spoiler (like the member here who had his back glass broken when his spoiler got stolen).

The whole thing sucks, but what are you going to do? I reported the event to the PD, but in truth, it's considered a 'minor crime', so these scumbags will continue to steal and there's no stopping them. Use a weapon against them and then you get in trouble- it's an unfair world.

 

Doc, sorry to hear this. Don't let some idiots ruin the look of your car, though. Maybe wait a few weeks and then consider replacing the roof spoiler.

I was parked in the middle isle (so you basically walk up to the store from the center of the lot) and about 10 cars down from the beginning of the spaces near a cart drop off, so overall, I was pretty close to the entryway of the store. As much as I'd like to replace the roof spoiler, I'm not going to as my car will be less noticeable and I don't want to draw any attention to it. I'm a little less angry about this today, but I'd still like to see the perps pay. Maybe if I had 5 minutes alone with them to talk to them and make them see the error of their ways...

Just wondering, since you filed a police report...and it's on video...would insurnace pay you for this? maybe they can just cut you a check and you can decide at a later date if you want another one or not? just throwin it out there...not sure if insurance would cover it or not.

 

No because my deductible is $500 and the spoiler was a lot cheaper than that. Plus, I don't have a receipt for the spoiler. The video is pretty much irrelevant since they can't equate the faces of the people in the video with a specific license plate. If the plate was identifiable then they could at least contact the owner of the car. Realistically, the police have much more important things to do- this is considered petty theft I'm sure. I cleaned the back window today, so it looks like the spoiler was never on there. I enjoyed it as long as I had it. Now my TL will enter 'stealth mode' and be like all the others (and I'm OK with this as long as no one else decides to use it for spare parts).

Sorry to hear. Look at the bright side, at least your have your trunk spoiler. They could have done a two-fer if they spent another 30 seconds.

I have to say the cosmetic mods, like sticky tape spoilers, just scream STEAL-ME! I had an airdam bolted to my first car and that thing did not last 6 months in San Jose CA- last time I added a cosmetic mod to a car. Thieves steal stupid stuff too- remember getting my H yanked off my Prelude grill, 80's Toyota trucks getting their chrome side vent yanked. Camaro Z28's use to get their Z28 trunk badge stolen just like the TypeS logo gets yanked sometimes now.

Thieves are scum, but they are always around- no matter where you live.

 

I guess I should consider myself lucky. I remember when I had a 2G TL and had a constant fear of having my headlights jacked. It was a common practice as the ricers would steal the lights and ballasts and install them in their Civics (it never happened to me though). I remember some members on Acurazine had some really severe damage done to their cars because of the headlight thefts. As for the trunk lip, that's been on for so long, I'd be worried about the paint being torn off with the spoiler.
I do agree that unfortunately, cosmetic upgrades sometimes make the car an 'attractive nuisance'.

I still wish all thieves very ill will- I hope karma bites them in the ass.

 

It'll probably be a multicolored Civic or Chevy Cobalt/Cavalier with a poorly fitting body kit and my roof spoiler on it, no doubt in Trenton (AKA, the s**thole of Mercer county).
