Am I using the Sportshifter too much?

I have had my TL for two weeks and I enjoy using the Sportshifter to get around. I am another one of those people who would probably get manual, but my better half prefers auto.

I like controlling the upshifts and the downshifts, although the 3-2 around 30-40 mph does cause a dramatic speed decrease. I really enjoy flipping through the gears.

So this made me wonder? Should I not be downshifting so much from 3-2 around that speed to put a greater load on tranny while saving brakes? Or are trannies such as this one designed to handle that kind of use?

There was a thread related to this last year, but I'm interested in your thoughts and your experience. (https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...t=sportshifter)

Are you past 500 miles yet? Remeber brake in period. Prolly better to wear down break shoes then the drivetrain. I did read somewhere the tranny was designed to allow for spead control, but dont take my word for it.

I know that thread...

Can I say my friend's 00' TL was lucky without having any tranny issue? He used SS every day and night with 50k+ miles. Now, he leases 04' TL and continues to burn that SS mode by the same way...

It's like burning the clutch... but there's no clutch!

I used SS mode every day in my 2G. The brakes were original when I got rid of the car at 83000 but the tranny was not.. Now I know there was more of a problem with the 2 G tranny. I would not worry about it so much. I used to go about 75-80 on the highway and drop to 4th than to 3rd around 45 and 2nd about 25.

I drained and refilled the tranny each year and flush it every other. It was the design and not the use that cause problems. I would say to shift away...

I have a 99 and with 96675 miles on it, and I use the sport shift driving to school everyday. I have had it in the auto mode 3 times. Once when i was trying to get home thru a tornado , and the other 2 during heavy snow. My tranny is amazing and shifts perfectly. People wiht out the sportshift gear down on hills so sure it is okay!!!!!!!

I use my SS mode all the time. I always downshift especially when taking a quick corner going from 4 to 3rd to 2nd just right before the turn. This gives it a really smooth and accurate quick turn or cornering if you like to call that!!! I think it should be alright I hope!!!
