How often do you use Sportshift?
How often do you use Sportshift?
i use it 100% of the time, cant get enough of it. i know the 6spders are going to whore this thread, but oh well.
in all honsety i like the sportshift, you have more control over the car but dont need to fuck with the clutch. and in dire situations you could throw it in auto. i just wish we had control over the 1-2 shift, like the 99 4spd TLs. and i also wish that i shifted as fast as a manual like the SMGs.

damn. alot of my driving is on side streets b/c i use public commute for work. therefore im rarely on the highway. most driving is done on local 4 lane roads, where i always use SS to frequently pass. i need to start using auto mode bc i waste SO MUCH gas. i feel like im always chilling in 2nd gear. if passing, i leave it at 4-5k rpms so when it comes time to hit the gas, i reach vtec immediately. i love it. hehe
I had a slushbox CL-S for nearly two years before I traded for the 6-Speed.
In that two years I think I used the thing like 10 times max. HATED IT !!!
Almost wrecked the car once on a corner in the rain when it didn’t do what I wanted it to.
My guess would be that the only people who think it’s a cool thing to have are people who’ve never driven a manual tranny car.
Anyone’s who’s worked a real clutch and shifter knows how much of a joke the “Auto Slush-Shift” really is.

thats true, ive never owned a manual car, which is why i think SS is a great little toy to use. i use it all the time. my friends who drive autos wish they had the same function. and those who have manual cars tell me to stop shifting and put the damn thing in D5 already.

I had an auto and got frustrated at the SS. No 1-2 or 2-1 control and under certain circumstances it would ignore my shift when there was no reason to. If they're going to give you a quasi-manual shifting option, at least make it as manual as possible.
My previous car was a manual and I loved driving it but became a hassle on the Freeway. The TL-S became a more sedate way of driving to work. I use it at least once a day when I have to weave out of traffic and what not. It's not the best but hey, it is functional in some way.
when i had my TL i used it all the time. I never drove the car without using it. I use to rev match on the downshifts and everything. People thought it was a manual when they heard me slowing down. Plus with the SS you stay in the gear you want to be in all the time, until you tranny decides it wants to be in 2nd at 75mph.

A big
to this.I have only ever been impressed by two auto trannies. The tiptronic in the porsche cayenne S I drove (my uncles car, let me drive the hell out of it.)
And the DSG with paddle shifters in the new A3.
I actually liked those auto-manuals....very good response, and the tiptronic/paddle shifters are great.
But...I still need that thrid pedal. I think if I owned an auto again as my only car at this point it would fucking kill me.
HAY GUYS WUTS SPOWERTSHAFD##
I use it through the canyons, on the freeway while passing, going up and downhill, any time cruise control is engaged, and sometimes when slowing down (when I don't want brake dust on my freshly cleaned wheels).
I've driven stick cars, I think the SS works fine. I would prefer a dual clutch SMG system to this but I really don't mind. When shifting up, take your foot off the throttle 70% of the way and it speeds up the gear changes 2x. Try it. Downshifting while braking (even if slight) is faster than if you've just got your foot on the accelerator.

i agree with bigman. i too rev match. when i come to a stop light ppl and stupid passenger believe that the car is stick just from the sound of it.
sometimes i curse out the CL when i try and catch 2nd gear on the highway, but its already too late. i see the flashing "2" on the gauge cluster and mumble - "fking pussy"

I rev match going back and forth between D5 and Neutral, but not in between gear shifts.

Doesnt matter, still take a stick over auto......I did not once wish I had been driving an auto the whole time.

huh?
my favorite parts of the SS
waiting my turn in the merging lane, sitting at 4k in 2nd
or, downshifting from 3rd going 40 when coming off bronx parkways w/ sharp exits
you could tell by my lame excitement that i have never owned a stick car, although ive driven them all the time
the most fun ive ever had in a stick car was driving my friends old school Si. drove it like nuts, i left the gas floored during every shift. i beat that thing to the ground
either that, or my friends 15 PSI VR4, that was a good time. but beating on ghetto cars like civics are so much fun to mess with.

fuck sportsshift....its so boring compared to a real manual
plus the fact that TL trannies are so weak anyways i tend to never touch it. i notice that my gears slip a little when i use SS compared to when i just leave it in D5, i can shift in auto by just reving or letting off the gas to downshift, etc
