Air bag recall

Doe's anyone know for sure our 3rd gen airbags are safe? and who manufactured them. It seems like some Honda's from 04-08 have the defective bags. I can't find any info that shows that our TL's are on the list, sure would like to know for sure.

Our airbags were made in Mexico, not Japan, as indicated by the recall. (SOURCE: The label that says MADE IN MEXICO on the airbag)

There have been more members than I care to recall whom can testify to the life-saving performance of the TL's airbags systems. We're in the clear.

I believe the problems are with the Takata airbags made in Mexico.

Per the Car & Driver article: "...documents show that in 2002, Takata’s plant in Mexico allowed a defect rate that was 'six to eight times above' acceptable limits, or roughly 60 to 80 defective parts for every 1 million airbag inflators shipped. The company’s study has yet to reach a final conclusion and report the findings to NHTSA."

The 3G TL airbags are not recalled-- yet.

However, the math favors keeping the airbags activated rather than deactivated should the 3G TL bags be recalled.

dont worry, if there was actually a concern, the manufacturer would have sent you a recall notice already. No company wants to be liable for injuries in car accidents

lol but GM waited nearly 10 years before they admitted they had ignition module problems causing deaths of several people in that 10 year window

TL is not affected but a lot of Honda's are including my Pilot. I'm wondering what the wait is for getting this repair done? I guess I'll call my dealer and find out next week but it would not surprise that it's weeks long with the number of cars needing repair. As long as they can fix our Pilot before Thanksgiving I'm good- we barely drive that vehicle now.

Unless it costs less to settle court cases than to recall 100,000s of airbags.

That's how class action suits come to be, and these multi-Billion dollar corporations factor the settling of the suit along with the negative publicity. Obviously, situations involving death are a different story.

This is capitalism, it's whatever makes the most money.

Oh I agree, however, class action suits are never cheap. There have been times in the past where auto manufacturers have done the calculations and figured the lawsuits would have been cheaper to deal with. Boy were they ever wrong. Also, if someone finds out that the auto manufacturer knew there was an issue and decided pay outs would be better, the lawsuits magnify exponentially.

I think honda just figures that from a publicity point of view, it's better to fix an issue than pretend there isn't one.
