He said car has discrepancy in mileage and sold as TMU. Odometer shows 140k but papers in the car shows that it was at 244k few weeks ago and 60k back in March of this year.

There is the rub......

TMU moniker knocks the price waaaay down as mileage is one of the key factors in determining a vehicle's worth.

However, as justn said - go check it out..........

True Mileage Unknown and is often associated with fraud or odometer rollback.

I personally would not consider buying the car. Too many red flags.

I would say check it out..

Acura messed up my car and replced the odometer and did not rollover the millage because the old cluster died completely before they could transfer.

I know the exact millage of my car since it was always serviced at the dealer, but when I tried to trade in because of the millage missmatch, regardless I have the paperwork of the service and millage before the change, I was offered only 10k.. So I got the car up to date and decided to keep it for 5-6 more years rather than trading in..

Who knows what story is behind that Type S but it might be worth hearing..

I stay away from cars that don't have accurate miles.

Go ahead and check it out. If it is cosmetically and mechanically sound what is the problem? If you're looking to buy a 3G in 2014... Near 2015 you shouldn't be looking for resale value-- you should be looking for a car you'd enjoy and that would last.

I'd look at it if it was close to me in a instant.

Do a 105K kit, tranny fluid and switches and drive on, assuming all is well with it and it drives well. Plus, since the true mileage is unknown, I'd use that as a bargaining chip to get the price down further. It's not for me, but for someone on a budget, it might be the ideal car if it all checks out.

Update: Called to come take a look few hrs ago and it was sold to the first person that came out. Had a chat with him and he believes that the cluster got swapped out to km and back to miles which is why flagged TMU. No bodywork, no mechanical problems, and looks immaculate. Oh well, someone got themself a deal.

For 8k you can't ask for much... As long as it has an engine, transmission, and runs, that's alrdy worth it. Minor body damage or interior wear can't be considered because of the price. You guys are talking like it's supposed to be a mint condition car.

In my opinion, it would look more tempting showing the original 244k miles, compared to 60k but with a swapped odometer.
