Ahhh 1x3 is done car drives....

Alright fellas I did my 1x3 this afternoon for the first time... It was a good experience in bonding with my car. I had the pleasure of doing it on a lift at my brothers shop, the only distasteful thing that happened was my brother telling me to leave the old fluid in because if I changed it out that the car is most likely not even going to go into gear blah blah blah and acting like he knew it all...
Moving pass that the fill bolt wasnt as hard as I thought, the only thing that bothered me was the damn plastic clips on the slashguard 2 of them were broken and hard to get off Im getting new clips from acura tomorrow. The drain plug wasnt too bad alil elbow grease and the right breakerbar and I was golden.
The car does seem to shift quicker and the shift doesnt feel as firm as the reviews Ive read on here. I also had a lil whistle sound that I could hear when the car shifted prior to the redline change I dont hear that anymore.
So it seems redline D4 is the way to go for my car lol.
Now onto the pressure switches, next week. Ive seen a write up on here but Id like to know if theres a video out there showing the procedure being performed...Hmmmm

I used D4 too. I did a 4x3. But my car now has a slight whine at low speeds. I don't remember it doing that before. The shifts are sharper though.

Did the 3x3 with D4 and the 3rd/4th switches at the same time. Love how the car drives now.

I did a 3x3 in my wifes 04 Accord V6 it was the easiest thing I have ever done. Not sure if its similar in the TL's but if it is...its easier than changing the motor oil. Infact, you dont even have to raise the car the drain bolt is blose enough to simply reach under the car and its high enough to get the drain pan under there. Fluid is pink colored now and car shifts great. The manual recommened using the Z1 Honda ATF but that was changed to the revised DW1 fluid I think it was. Very happy with the results.

any reason why you guys are going with D4 rather than the Redline Racing type -F ?

I went with Type-F and it is amazing....did a 4x3 over 3000 miles and I have ~2K miles on her now and it is running awesome :knockonwood:

I wanted to go with type-F but I told the place I purchased it from D4 before I had a chance to call them back and tell them Redline Racing they had already put the order in for D4. I wonder how much of a difference it'll make Id like to try the redline type-F. Maybe my next 3x3 I'll use it.
Tomorrow Im picking up my other 3 quarts and next week I'll do another 1x3 and I'll attempt to tackle the pressure switches...

its similar, but the accord doesnt have the plastic piece underneath like the TL does, so thats 1 extra step for the TL. however the clips and screws for the plastic piece cannot be reached unless the car is jacked up, or unless you are the skinniest person in the world

Thought about the Type F but wanted smoother shifts with better protection that meets OEM requirements.

You could still do the remaining 3x3 using type F....

I know and thought about it but decided to go with D4 when some on this forum had issues with Type F.

Dealership did a 1x3 with DW1 when I purchased the car. I am planning on doing another one at about 90-95K. Right now it shifts great. No issues at all.

TL 5AT tranny's have 7.4-8 qts on fluid in them....but a drain only removes 3 qts...the other is in lock/torque converter (dont know the exact name)....

but to change the fluid you have to drain 3qts and fill 3qts and repeat this process 3 times....this is usually referred to as 3(times) x 3(qts)....

so the OP has done a drain and refill which is 1 (time) x 3 (qts)....he will have to repeat this process a total of 3 times to get all the old fluid out and the new fluid in....

here are the drain and refill percentages:

Drain/Fill
1=39.5%
2=63.4%
3=77.8%
4=86.6%
5=91.9%
6=95.1%
7=97.0%
8=98.2%
9=98.9%

I can confirm that Redline racing ATF is amazing. I just did a 2x3 on what I assume what original tranny fluid. Before the 2x3 I was seriously afraid my transmission was about to need to be replaced. Went from shaky/jolty/rough shifts(especially shifts from 2-3) to perfect smooth like butter shifts. Going to do one more 1x3 on my next oil change.

I also changed out the pressure switches for 3rd and 4th gear after the drain and refill. But the shifts were perfect after the 2x3 even before I swapped the switches.
