I am sure you could just replace the bulb w/ a different temp. No need to replace the whole system.

Yes it is. The HID part for our headlights are D2S HID's It's a direct swap. The color is all according to Temperature. Our stock bulbs have 4300, I upgraded to 6k recently It's a whiter look, with less visibility. Here's a chart with the different temperature ratings. The higher the Kelvin, the less road visibility you have. 3k is the closest to "real daylight" I hope this helps!

One of my OEMs just turned purple, I'm guessing its the bulb since it doesn't turn on sometimes.. Im on the search to buy some 8Ks, saw them on eBay for like 30 bucks shipped but the members here on the black market are selling them for around 50 since they are brand names, does it really matter? :\

I've contemplated swapping as well.. definitely going to be either 6 or 8k (don't want to sacrifice TOO MANY lumens).

It's really hard to tell the difference between 4.3 and 6k.. that's why I was looking at 8.

Can anyone comment on using 6 or 8k as opposed to stock 4.3k?

It's kinda weird since I've shown people my car (if they haven't seen it before, and clearly don't know anything about headlights) I've heard everything from "cool! you even have to those sweet blue headlights that new cars have" all the way to "you should look into getting those new halogen lights for your car" (both comments referring to my 4.3k stock HIDs)

Found a great comparison between 4.3 and 6k HERE

I'd probably use 6 or 8k in the summer and 4.3k in the winter. Sounds like a solid plan.

If you are to get 6000K, I recommended you get the TRUE Philips Ultinon HID. You will pay a little more but the quality is by far the best out there in the market. I used to have 6000K Ultinon on my previous vehicle and give you a true effects as you see on Audis or BMW. It is the output from your projector. I was running Philip 5000K on my TL before because it gives me a small hint of yellow but have a similar effects of the 6000K. The Philip 5000K are OEM on some of the Euro Spec BMWs and Mercedes Benz in Europe. The 5000K and 6000K is not DOT approved. Here is the link

^true, but Kaixen HIDS is about the same as the Phillips Ultinon HID but at half the price. Made by Germany also.

You can purchase these from XLR8.

6K is the best for our cars IMO

I have been very happy with them up until recently when one of the bulbs started flickering. I ordered a set of Phillips Ultinon 6000k so I am going to give those a try now.

edit: damn Tim beat me to the link, but my link is better

How long did it take for the one to start flickering?

I had some used 5K Kaixen's, then one went bad.

I changed out to Phillips 4300K 85122+. The light output is really good.
