Do they weight enough to throw off the balance of ones car?

Quote: "people will just ignore the TPMS like the engine light(I know this isnt verbatim)"
That is not neccesarily true. The engine light comes on and you think, oh crap, but what the hell could the problem be. If your mid Flashes Low Tire pressure front left as annoyingly as it does the seatbelt warning people will break down and get some "free air" or use a bike pump(I have a compressor). People would pay even more attention if it said impending blow out. I know that if I can get a stock system installed for around 300 my father said he would get it.

I found some interesting information regarding TPMS for on the Canada Acura FAQ website.

This should provide some answers to a lot of the questions in this thread.

they are light, a few grams at most. not enough to really matter. i mean, they have to be balanced regardless. so an extra few grams on the opposite side isnt really a big deal

Question

It sounds like the retrofit onto our TLs would be resonable as far as the wheels go. Does anyone know where, how the TPMS info is displayed on other Honda models with TPMS? Is it the MID, NAVI or LCDs? That is where I see more a hardware issues for a potential retrofit. If it is the MIDs, maybe only a firmware flashing might be possible. Hopefully the MID is similar to other Honda models with TPMS?

We can hope. I am anxiously awaiting to find out what funcionality the TPMS will offer in the 06 TL, AND if it can be retrofitted to our models.

TurboSam....please keep us posted! And thanks for sharing your 1st hand experience and insight.

Well, like I said on another thread, the MDX's TPMS is on the same graphic that tells you which doors are open right below the speedometer. There is also an orange light that looks like a gear that blinks with a chime below the fuel reading.

The RL:

The MDX:

I think they would give us an RL one, since our MID also displays the door positions. Does the MDX have an advanced MID?

No.

If the point of this topic is to get an actual reading of the tire pressure you should check it - NOT using the TPMS. The TPMS is not accurate by any means. It is good for safety and will warn you in the event you drop below a certain point in tire pressure. But if you are worried about just knowing what the tire pressure is to make sure you are at an optimal level, you need to manually check it.

I have the RL and if you take a stroll over to the RL forums you will see people discussing the TPMS being inaccurate compared to checking the pressure manually. Varies from 2-4psi.

Still looks pretier then the yellow light, and would be less work to install seeing as the MID is already there.

I am still waiting for a car company(prolly mercedes) to integrate a scanner into each wheel well to constantly monitor tread condition and possible foreign bodies that could become lodged in the tread.

YEAH me too !!! I am waiting for either hyundai or kia to come up with an option that would balance/rotate/replace my tires when the tread wear out...oh even align while they are at it...

Apparently your school hasn't taught you the concept of practicality and reasonability yet. Or better yet, reality.

Thats not too far fetched. Most of the stuff on an S600 isnt practical, then look at RR, they have a hood ornamant that pops out. Mercedes has so many advanced safety systems(pre safe, the 07 S will use RADAR to take full control of the breaks should an obstacle get in the way, along with seat adjustment window control, etc). They already have cars scanning the road for auto suspension control... I will have the last laugh when they release this 10-15 years from now.

ok guys. stil no solid info on what system it will be using and whether or not it can be adapter to pre 06 models.

also, i would like to add that the maintenance minder/message center of the TL is unlike that of the RL/Odyssey and the MDX/Pilot. it is more similar to the RL/Odyssey setup, but still very different. i think all the specualtion is going to cause nothing but people arguing about what system they think the TL will be equipped with. i suggest we just wait and see what actaully comes

There's no "last laugh" about this. I'm not saying it will never happen or become practical to offer in various levels of cars.

I can say right now that we will get fully automated computer-driven vehicles in the future, and although it seems unrealistic right now, it could happen. As technology develops and becomes available and affordable at cheaper production costs, we'll be able to get better technology. Not all of it might be good, but nonetheless we will be seeing more advanced cars with more technology.

As for Rolls Royce and the hood ornament... well, that's just what you get when you are buying hyper luxury vehicles. Practicality is no longer a concern; just luxury, trendiness, and social standing which comes with the car at super high prices.

^Well you gave the impression. Fully automated cars would face problems with people who enjoy driving, not to say I wouldnt have one in my garage. The thing is at least when your driving for 6 hours you are doing something.

The original need/use for tire monitoring system was due to "run flat" tires. My first intro to TPMS was back in 1994 when I purchased my first Vette(which I believe was the first car to be offered without a spare). Many manufacturers are starting to use run flat tires to alleviate the need for "the fifth wheel". Thus decreasing weight and making additional room for other items and/or cargo room etc. Given the ridgid sidewall of run flat's, TPMS is usually a safety requirement. Other than that, like I mentioned above, it's a great safety feature for all vehicles to inform you of insidious tire pressure issues while driving..

Besides - the computer, not to mention other systems tell us numerous things about how our vehicle is operating, whether it needs service, where we are, etc. etc. But heck, I guess those too were marketed for the sole reason that folks are just to damn "F'ing" lazy.............
This is exactly why I purchased my TPMS. Its a safety feature, nothing more. Sure you can check your tire pressure before you get in the car, but what is gonna give you any warning that you are about to have a blowout? The TPMS. I beleive it is mandated that all 2006 models have the option for a TPMS. I am glad that I purchased it; but it hasnt been the greatest experience. I think alot of tire shops dont have enough experience in installing these kind of systems. It will take some time before it becomes second nature to them.

05 install??

Does anyone know if the TPMS system in the 2006 TL can be added to a 2005 model? I've seen the parts list in this post: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...highlight=tpms

But what about getting it to show on the MID? Not possible? Easy to swap out?

I know there are third party units, but I am asking specifically about the 06 TL system.

Also does anyone have pictures of how the info is displayed in the 06?

If you push that select button thats above the < info > button while looking at the "tire pressure OK" screen you get:

I agree - the busy people are the one who normally drive for couple miles with blinkers on, fuel door open, pants/dress jammed between the doors. I do not believe those people would even notice an alarm on a dashboard telling them about low tire pressure.
People, who are aware of such things, do not need electronics to tell them such things.
