Adding coolant - how often?

I am just curious how often do all of you 3G owners add coolent? I think I have to add a little more right now after about a year and a half.

Technically never. In reality, every year and a half is not bad as long as it's not emptying the tank all the way down. Every TL I've seen has had a small leak at the small hose that connects the radiator to the overflow tank. You might want to check it.

My guess is the design or the quality of the plastic Acura uses for the cover of the overflow tank. the one on the TL is very flimsy and can easily crack because of the heat in the engine bay.

Mine for a while smelled of coolant when fully warm. when i inspected it, i found that the overflow tank's cover doesnt fully seal. if you overtighten it, it pops loose again. so i decided to have it replaced (under warranty at the time) and since ive never smelled coolant and the amount in the overflow tank stabilized.

Generally you shouldn't have to add coolant in a car as it's a sealed system. You will have to replace the coolant every 7 years as it becomes acidic!

IHC & SixSixFour- What part are you all talking about when saying that its usually the one that cause your TL to smell like coolant. Mine smelled like coolant one night and I opened the hood to see that the black coolant hose that leads into the radiator (on top/first thing you see basically with the chrome knob) had come off and coolant was everywhere! I still smell coolant to this day, and that was about 2-3 months ago. I've tried to clean it the best I could as I thought it might just be coolant that is getting burnt in places I couldn't reach but I dunno...it's starting to annoy me.

If I knew the specific piece you all are talking about then I could have a look and see if thats the culprit

That's the one I was talking about. Mine had a very slow leak since new. It's so small that occasionally you can smell it but you can't see it until it's leaked long enough that you get old coolant buildup. I used a small black ziptie a few years ago and it's been fine ever since.
