Accidental custom air intake
I was having a minor coolant issue. Reservoir tank has broken cap. So, checking out fluid levels waiting for my ordered cap something happened. I noticed where my air box hose clamps to the throttle body, it was cracked, broken almost the entire diameter! The vacuum that inserts also snapped off. How?? Why?? Last week i installed rv6 pcd's and, about 100 miles later, check engine and i forget the code i got, anyhoo...i bought an auto zone air intake system and immediately returned it lol. It felt better to bank on OEM reliability. Now, with the system broken im sucking in straight air. Fu#k that so, i had to fix it quick as i was omw to check on my mom after a surgery. No place had a system i could get cheap without having to fab something or mod something i mean. I go into jegs, they had a k&n cone half off. The closest advance had NO spectre tubes. Only a 3"-2.5" walk down. So with these and my only choice, a 4" length, 3" diameter exhaust coupler i made it work now my air is filtered again with a k&n and im enjoying this thing i was never going to do. The sound, the step on the gas and i GO RIGHT MEOW!! yeah im kind of glad that broke lol. Engine light gone of course so that was never the pcd's. What about the vacuum you ask ? So I'll drill a hole in the tube i used and set an emissions hose and Hondabond around with some craftiness for the now. I wrapped a piece of torn shirt, used the hose clamp AND a zip tie to keep dirt out until i can finish. Just wanted to share my slightly bitter but very sweet little story. Happy modding! 😁
I figured I wasn't the only one seeing this happen. In fact, my friends '07 Accord V6 did the same thing.
I wasn't going to let it happen again so - overkill...
4-ply silicone elbow and adapter with t-bolt clamps and a stainless coupler between. Happy surprise- it made a difference in the intake sound too!
@Cammark35, (or anyone who knows the answer
) My air intake tube cracked from age and cold during air filter removal. I removed the spring clamp on the air box end. I can't bring the spring ends together on the new air intake tube. How did you do it?
Any ideas?

Go to the gym and lift heavy weights for 6 months then try the spring again. I dunno, I used my hands.

...I scrounged around for something conical that had a similar large-end diameter as the tube (I think it was one of those paint mix/measure cups) then used some electrical tape to secure it to the tube. it still took a few tries before i got it to slide down onto the tube without flying off across the garage. but this way you are stretching it out slowly and evenly until it's on.
Did you remember to create a port for your PCV/EGR tubing that usually routes in the back of the intake?
Just did this one trying to size up if a 4.5" intake tube could fit into the CAI spot on our frame. It can't, 4" is maximum.

I checked the flow diagram in the FSM and it's drawing air from the intake into the rear VC. I always imagined it went the other way. so really I only needed to supply filtered air (to keep garbage out). I added a fitting to the side of the upper filter box (OE) since that was easier not to screw up.
Mine is torn too on my 08 TL-S.

Are the offbrand hoses just as good? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Engine-Air-...YAAOSwLr1cRU72 $12 cheaper or so then OEM Acura

Jotech had to do that to my G35 so they could tune it. Same issue on that car, the intake hose after the MAP sensor tears and causes all sorts of drive-ability issues. In the case of my G35, if you can't find another accordian tube at a wrecking yard you have to order the whole intake to get it. Ugh.
Reattaching the spring was a serious pain in the ass. I got the ends close then pulled them together with pliers to latch them. Probably took me at least ten minutes to do, but at least 30,000 miles later and it held just fine, albeit with some stretching.
This is the area where the spring is supposed to go. Don't understand why they didn't use a hose clamp....
No idea how they put that back on. I am guessing with snap ring pliers? Yeah I couldn't pull them close to latch
I found putting the spring on really easy honestly, I hooked it together off the tube and the part that latches together I rolled it over the end and held it with my finger and then used a small curved pick for the sides and bottom dropped right into place.
I will give it a shot. Doesn't seem like its really needed honestly.
