About to look at this car, is it worth it?

I talked to my friend German who was a previous TL owner, said he LOVED his car and it was the best daily he's ever had and often regrets selling it, I told him about this car and he said it was way over priced...I think it's under priced.

http://cleveland.craigslist.org/cto/4480105550.html

can anyone give me some advice, shall I proceed with purchase? Thanks.

it's definitely not underpriced.

that car is worth no more than 14k.

Really? Damn, I have definitely fallen off the prices on these cars, they use to be quite expensive back in the day, lmao.

That's a tough one. A 06 non-nav car for 16.5 with stickers all over it. I would get a Type s for that money, why not look into the 07 and 08 in that case?

Looks like the person selling it used KBB pricing - It says $16,450. However, there are a few 2006 TLs in that area for less. But, not manuals. Heck, there's few manuals for sale anywhere on Autotrader, and the cheapest is about 14K. I don't think his pricing is that far out of line, but if you are willing to drive or ship a car, there may be better deals. I'd tell him $14.5 and he yanks all those stupid stickers off and it's a good deal.

If you have 16K or so to spend, look around for an '07-'08. They updated the TL in '07 with a better transmission and lots of other goodies. Don't go for this one just because it's got an A-Spec kit and coilovers. I'm always leery of buying a car that someone else modded. Find a good deal somewhere and the money you save will get you most mods that you'd want.

I think hes looking at that car because of the low mileage, not because of the coils and aspec kit

I realize that, I just didn't want him to be thinking it was a deal because of those mods. To me, those things would offset the low mileage if I were looking at it. Well, the A-Spec lips would be a bonus for sure.

On another note, how come the only interior pic he took was through the driver's window? Too lazy to open the door?

the one he posted also has a 6MT, if he goes for an 07-08 he'll need to get a TL-S.

Depends what you want out of a car. If you're looking for low mileage then this might be a good car for you. If you don't care about mileage, you can find a good 3G TL for a bit over half the cost with 130,000 miles on it. If you want a car with navigation, don't compromise just because this car caught your eye. There are too many TLs out there to not get the one you want, it just takes times. Also seems like he's trying to justify the money spent on mods. Just tell him you have no interest in mods whatsoever and you're actually looking for something stock but you might consider this car. That will get rid of some of his bargaining leverage.

Car is overpriced. That is dealer pricing, but a dealer would price it that high because of the cost to get it close to stock again. Modded cars can look great but they attract a very limited amount of buyers hence the car being over-priced. You do have a lot of bargaining power if he really needs to get rid of that car. Test him out

What happend to the resale value on these cars? If I was to sell my car, I'd price it at it's highest and room to bargain.

I would definitely get 07-08 even the type-s for the same price! Take a sit inside 06 and then do 07 - Did the same thing and ended up getting 07

thanks for all the input, i didn't put much information on this car just to get some honest opinions. I know the seller, he's been a good friend for over 5 years now. The interior is a little rough, the leather cracked quite hard and has scratches, so that was a turn off.

It was a VERY comfortable ride even with the coilovers spun all the way down, so i was very impressed on that part, specially on Tein suspension.

It not have a navi is def a huge turn off, but something I can live without, when test driving it 4th gear was grinding, so that sort of killed it for me. I'm sure the trans wouldn't just explode and bind up but it's still quiet annoying.

The A-Spec kit was purchased from the dealer with a discount, so I think he was referring price wise as a dealer would sell to a consumer.

I currently drive this

2014 Focus ST I got it brand new, fully loaded ST3 package with some mods, but my balance is 25k on it, so I thought about selling it and picking up the TL so I'd have a smaller principle balance and a nice car.

Looks like I probably won't be coming back to all my family at Acurazine :,(.

It sucks leaving behind an Acura or Honda even though they are "just a honda" they always deliver, those Focus ST's though are no joke when the day comes that i can afford one it is on my list to consider. Back to the TL though, if you don't like it already form the few thing you mentioned don't buy it especially if its getting a grind in 4th

Well, as of last night I got an offer on my Focus ST from a buyer in Detroit for $25.5k which I paid brand new only $24.8k for it. I accepted his offer and will find out tomorrow if it goes through. If it does, I will put a low offer on this TL and clean it up (i.e de-sticker it, clean up interior, etc) and find a price of a transmission rebuilt or a used transmission and deduct it off his asking price. We'll see what ends up happening by the end of the week.

I like my Focus, but it's hard to work on, such a cramped bay and everything is so stuffed in their. Huge pain in my ass, also if Ford decides to bring a new Focus RS into the states, the prices on the ST will fall faster than our economy did.

I've always been a huge HUGE fan boy of the 3G TL and I can see having this TL as a daily driver till it literally falls apart, I miss my 335i a lot and plan to purchase a 135i as soon as I pay off this TL or this Focus assuming it doesn't sell. FWD is a pain in my ass, but with the TL being focused a bit more on the Luxury side, it being FWD doesn't bother me what so ever.

Come on! Don't buy that TL! Here http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...nal&listType=1 you have a good example what you can buy for the same price! If you buy that TL you were test driving, you will regret it, believe me.

that actually is quite damn cheap and a Type S, impressive. I wouldn't ever ever get an auto again, unless it's a truck or suv...otherwise it's just a waste of time.

the Focus ST buyer didn't get into contact with me like he was supposed to, sooooooooooo this is all still a pending process.
