About to look at an '07 Type-S
First post. I've been in the market for a car for over a year now. Was interested in Infiniti G's, Honda Accord Coupes, 2013 Ford Focus ST, Subaru Imprezza, Mitsubishi Lancer, Audi A4s. My friend just introduced me to the TL's not long ago and I find the 07-08's to be very appealing.
So hopefully sometime this weekend i will be looking at a 07 TL Type-S with 76,000 miles on it.
Since i'm not really aware of all the issues and concerns with this generation TL or any of them for that matter...What questions should i be asking?
Thanks, i'm 22 and am currently driving a '95 Ford Probe and am in desperate need to get out of it lol

Oh yeah! I'm definitely due for an upgrade. Have been saving my money up for over two years and think i finally came across the type of steal that i've been waiting for.
I just came across this article that was on the front page of yahoo oddly enough.
http://autos.yahoo.com/news/10-most-...rs.html?page=1
It says: [qoute]the model-year 2008 and 2009 versions of the midsize Acura TL luxury sedan received top grades for long-term durability from both Consumer Reports and J.D. Power and Associates owner surveys and high marks in initial quality and performance testing.[/qoute]
Are the 07's that much different from the 08's?

from your list of choice I would say go with the Type S, it offer you more tech than any other you had listed. 07-08 is identical except for the 08 navi works in HI and AK, 07-08 TL has nothing major as problem headache so you are safe. BTW when you are looking at that Type S make sure that they had done the drain and fill on the Automatic transmission (if it is an auto). Best of luck
a '95 Ford Probe, holy shit that brings back memories.
My first car was a '93 Probe GT. Spun a ring on that sumbitch and that's how I learned to wrench on cars - I dropped the j-spec KLZE engine in that thing and worked it over. I used to crush H22's with that thing once I had it worked. Probably the only Probe that ever shot flames out the tailpipes lol.
God what a piece of shit though
, I'm glad I blew it up a 2nd time and got into a better car.
You're gonna be pretty happy with an 07/08 TL or TL-S, but honestly if you have been saving up for a couple years and can afford it, I would try for a Type-s. I say that having owned both a base and a type-s.

I know that with g35s 03-05s had an oil consumption issue and the interior was upgraded in 06 which most people would tell you to get an 06 or newer!
Is there a case like this with the TLs? I just don't want to buy an 05 or an 06 and then be kicking myself for not getting an 07 or 08.

The TL was upgraded in 07. They changed a few things around for convenience and I'm pretty sure they upgraded the transmission with the RL transmission. They also added fog lights in the bumper vs in the headlights and integrated turn signals into the mirrors. The rear bumper and tail lights are slightly different as well. If you're financially able to, look at the 07's and up.

What are the fallbacks of the 2005s and 06s opposed to the 07 and 08s?

what he said and they also upgrade the resolution on the MID is higher than before the cluster and steering wheel also look much better than 04-06, MID button is now easier to reach since they are mount on steering wheel instead of in the cluster 04-06 model, they also added compass for non-navi model. DRL is added where the 04-06 fog light used to be, CD player is now capable paying MP3 and WAA format. Aux is available ONLY with 07-08 model in the center console, Transmission is seem more reliable than 04-06 model since we don't heard alot complaint about 07-08 AT. 07-08 TL base also has softer suspension setting for more comfort, get the 07-08 if it within your budget since it offer minor details.
This isn't in the 2nd gen section but i think i came across a steal and not sure if i should pass it up.
2000 TL AT - 80K - $3500
Apparently 70 year old female driven with a clean title.
I can buy a vehicle for $15,000 - $20,000 cash with ease. But the more money i save the better. I'm more than willing to sacrifice appeal for Benjamin's. I see cars as just a money pit that they are.
Would it be a bad idea going with a 2000 TL AT? I'm looking to save money and don't want to get in one if i'll be having to replace the tranny in a year.

on this one ! Good luck with your purchase, i'm sure you will love your TL as much as I do, even if it is an older gen. I guess my whole rant is pushing the idea that if you can handle shelling out a few more bucks, you can probably get something like I did without having to break the bank TOO HARD. Here she is. Ps. I am in Canada and (converted my KM to miles for simplicity of US readers).
How much do you feel COMFORTABLE spending? Two days ago I paid $11,000 for a 2007 TL-s 6M with 125,000 highway miles in MINT condition with all service done at the dealership with receipts including the 105,000 mile service. No accidents, clean carfax, no repaints. It came with new tires, breaks, clean oil change and a full detail. The car is next to mint, still smells new. I feel like I got the deal of the century for such a perfect car. People may get scared of the high mileage, but it doesn't worry me at all seeing how good this car was cared for. But that is just me. I have had two honda products previously get over 250,000 miles on the original tranny and engine.
