aaaahhhhhh! question guys.

coming down the 91 to anaheim. the car in front of me smashed the brakes. i didnt have time to down shift i just hit the brakes hard

now i felt my brakes "PUMP" i released the brake (still gonna hit the car in front) so i hit the brakes again. i feel some "pump" again...

after we take off again i see my VSA is "off"

i have a habbit of trning it off as soon as i jump in the car (unless someone is with me) bad idea i know...

so what hapened? the "pump" feel on my brakes..what was it? ABS? remember VSA was off!

crazzy driver, this is almost my second accident in one week. (gladly i didnt hit her)

felt like my brake pads could hold all the pressure and sliped...

it just didnd feel right (like when you tighten a cap on a bottle after its broken and it slips. the cap feels like its getting tighter but slips at the end again..)

2 things if your pedal is sinking:

1) Either your brake master cylinder is failing (which is the usual culprit), or

2) you have a leak somewhere.

If you feel vibration, then it's your ABS.

Yeah, vibration as in pump-release-pump-release-pump while your foot is firmly planted is the ABS working. It's rather unnerving when you've never experienced it.

ABS engaging doesn't feel "right". The pedal pulsates when it occurs; very unmistakeable.

By releasing your brakes when ABS was working could've gotten you into a big no no. And remember to turn the VSA back on. Unless you're driving in a racetrack.

If you release the brake pedal while ABS is working then you'll feel the pedal "jump" back on to your foot. Pretty awkward sensation at first and you'll think something is wrong. People sometimes "pump" the brake pedal on their own to avoid just slamming the brakes but with ABS, you shouldn't do that but rather slam the brakes and continue steering.

Anyway... why is it so bad to have VSA off?

What does ABS stand for? and what is its purpose ? What difference does it make by driving with vsa on vs. driving with vsa off ?

Thanks.

^Anti-lock Braking System. You never heard of this? Does away with you having to pump your brakes so you don't lock up. You're pulling our legs...right?
