My A14 service is due soon and I looked at what it entails...oil change, tire rotation, spark plugs, timing belt, and water pump. I have 1010XX miles on the car.

So I need input on a few options. I am NOT going to get this done at an Acura dealership because...well, they charge way too much for the same thing.

I also had my tires rotated at my last service, about 6000 miles ago, so I'll skip on that.

Option 1 - since the car isn't at 105k yet, just change the oil and spark plugs, either myself or since I don't have time, at an independent shop (who I trust) and don't do the belts and pump yet.

Option 2 - HAMILTON HONDA! In NJ...they have a special - water pump, timing belt, and drive belts, all for $389.99 plus tax. I like this since they are Honda techs and know what they're doing. I might even have them change the oil and spark plugs...which should be about $140 more.

Option 3 - Have Hamilton Honda do just the timing belt, drive belts, and water pump and use my independent for the oil and plugs.

Option 4 - Just have my indy do it all - he said $415 for the belts and pump...and probably about $100 more for the oil and plugs.

I'm personally leaning towards option 3...but I need some input from others on this board! Thanks in advance!

 

I'd have hamilton honda do the timing belt, drive belts, and water pump. Then just change my own oil and plugs. That is a damn good price for the water pump/timing belt service doe that can't include parts though right?

You should have made the appointment with Hamilton Honda for the timing belt, drive belts, and water pump for the unbelievable price of $390. THEN you should have started a thread trying to figure out what to do about the oil change and plugs.

 

Although you're not quite at 105K. I'd say you're close enough and I'd leap on #2 (or #3) as it seems to be a great dealership price.

 

Okay, update - I just made the appointment for the belts/pump for $389.99 and since I'm a first time customer, my oil + filter are FREE! The best part - free Accord loaner. They're sending me a quote for the plugs via email today, but even if they charge a couple of bucks more than my indy, the free oil and filter will offset it.

If anyone is around NJ, NY, or PA...this might be worth the drive. My nearest Acura dealer quoted me $1499.99 for the pump and belt + $44.99 for an oil change. The dealership I bought it from quoted me $999.99 (with a $150 off coupon on their site), $220 for plugs, and $39.99 for an oil change. So...$1545 and $1260 from the two Acura dealers I know. BIG chunk of change!

 

Just to clarify, 105K is not the magic number. There is no magic number in terms of mileage. The magic number is when the MID says "service due now" for the A14. I don't know how early the A14 service minder starts showing up, but it would appear in your case that it will be due before 105K.

 

Mine has about 15% left on it...just enough to make it till Friday!

but it says valid honda vehicles only, my RL just flashed A14 this morning and i am only 101k so far.

 

dont worry, many members' TLs have already been serviced there. Plus what dealer in their right mind with the proper tools and equipment would refuse potential business? lol

The ad was in the Sunday (7.22.12) Asbury Park Press newspaper. The deal is still going on at Hamilton Honda.

 

That's a great price on the 105K mile service. Have Hamilton do it.

 

Option 2 that's for damn sure might as well get tires and do a detail specials aswell still wouldn't cost as much then what California would do this service for guess we paying for the weather out here haha

 

My inde mechanic shop said that it isn't due until 120k. Dealer says 105k. What's the deal?

 

^its when ever a 4 comes up on the MID.
because the MID calculates RPMs and such, it could show the 4 as early as 105k miles or the 4 could pop up at 110k miles.

Just watch for the 4 on the MID

 

Or, as the owner's manual says, unless you drive in extreme conditions.

 

+1 on going to get the 105k timing belt service at Hamilton Honda!! I drove 5 hours to get my car serviced their and would do it again when the time comes.

For all of you guys worried about getting your car serviced at Hamilton - DON'T BE!

I drove up there last year and they took care of me very well. Took great care of my car as well, while putting me in a loaner for the day. I got in mid-morning, and was out of there early evening with all the work done. The price you can't beat, and the people were super nice!

wow, I wish I was up there...I was quoted ~800 at an acura dealer for the 2 belts and water pump. Only 60k miles too...service advisor said the timing belts can "pop" at 60k...nothing in the MID for service, 07 TL.

Does anyone know what the B14 maintenance is?

 

B14 is

Replace engine oil and oil filter
Inspect front and rear brakes
Check parking brake adjustment
Inspect these items:
Tie rod ends, steering gear box, and boots
Suspension components
Driveshaft boots
Brake hoses and line (including ABS)
All fluid levels and condition of fluids
Exhaust system
Fuel lines and connections
Replace spark plugs
Replace timing belt and inspect water pump. If you drive regularly in very high temperatures (over 110°F, 43°C), or in very low temperatures (under 20°F, 29°C), replace every 60,000 miles (U.S.)/100,000 km (Canada).
Inspect valve clearance

 

2012 MDX here, need A14 service. I've called every Honda and Acura in my local market (Columbus, OH) and they are all $1,300-1,500 for the service.
I called Hamilton to confirm their web special, and I asked about MDX and they said +$100.

how in the hell can Hamilton do this for $500 when everyone else is almost 3x the amount?

I'm only at 76k and in Massachusetts -- but for that price and service, I will drive to Jersey when I need my 105k done.

 

 

What are you calling BS on? The fact that they aren't honoring a price from 8 years ago? $1000 is the general guideline for a Honda dealer to do this work. Anywhere from $1000-2500 range depending on the dealer.

Just an update from my neck of the woods for anyone interested:

A14 service quotes from various dealers in the KC area. (edit: no longer living in Hawaii.....)

Included items: oil change, tire rotation, TB, WP, spark plugs, valve adjustment.

Honda dealer #1: $2200
Honda dealer #2: $2050
Honda dealer #3: $1750
Acura dealer #1: $1900
Acura dealer #2: $1900

It appears that not all honda dealers are automatically cheaper than Acura dealers. No Acura loaner cars due to some recalls recently. Honda dealers sounded much more generous with loaners.

 

Is Honda Dealer #3 Lee's Summit Honda by chance? That is who did mine and they were quite a bit cheaper than Jay Wolfe. Very clean dealership, offered a loaner which I declined, and that is where I buy many of the maintenance items for my car as well if I don't want to wait or pay for shipping. Your prices from the Acura dealers are surprising. Both of them in KC were over $2k several years back when I did mine.

Didn't call Lee's Summit since they are quite far away from where I live/work. Legends/Tiffany Springs is on the way/to work.

The other thing is some of the CSRs on phone may have not included taxes, I suspect the 1750 and 1900 (really 1850 IIRC) are without taxes...which can definitely bump them to over 2k all-in
