99 tl vs. 05 Magnum R/T

Well, long story short I raced a Magnum R/T and the race couldnt be any closer. We were side by side identical up to 80 mph and then we let off. I didnt know that the station wagon was that quick, but then when i checked out its specs online they run a 14.5 in the quarter, 340 hp and 390 torque. So I was more surprised of my car hanging with it. All i have is an intake, gutted cat, removed resonator and pre-muffler replaced with test pipe and some little weight reductions. I need to just take my car to the drag strip and see what it really runs.

A SXT still makes 250hp and would be a good competitor against the TL-P I'd imagine. Did it say R/T at the back?

The R/T badge was the first thing that i spotted, thats why i raced him cause i wanted to see what the hemi could do. It doesnt really surprise me all that much because there has been dozen of races that ive raced mid to high 14 second cars that ive stood right beside. I had a 93 integra ls with basically all the bolt- ons on it and it ran a 15.2 at the track and my TL feels a little quicker at top end so i know im somewhere in the mid to high 14's, but like i said before I just need to take it to the track so i can have real numbers to talk about.

A stock TL-P should be running 15.2 stock, with your mods then yea, may be your car is running high 14's. If that's the case, and the driver of the magnum isn't that good, then definitely you'd have a chance.

Magnum is a heavy wagon and Hemi is an old style engine. you really have to fill that engine up with alota torque and hp inorder for it to get some good quarter/mile numbers.
on the sidenote: It sucks on gas milage.

2005 Dodge Magnum R/T AWD 5.9 14.5 (C&D Aug '05)

1999 Acura 3.2TL 7.4 15.7

Dude, i love the TL and all but with my 3rd gen and an AEM CAI i couldn't even think of keeping up with a magnum R/T?! I've taken the SXT many times, but its not like i walked all over it much less the hemi. So unless the dude couldn't gain traction or he was just playin with you, or you were racing in a twisty turny area, even with all the mods you have i don't think its possible for you to take him out drag style. . .They're BAD ASS in a straight line

Perhaps the RT has some extra carpeting and therefore the guy in it couldn't floor it...just like my car....

The respondents are just keeping things in perspective, with a couple of magazine references posted as clarification of each car's abilities. In this instance, 2ndgentl was either the better driver OR the Magnum driver held back.

It was a good 'hang' nonetheless but, keeping it real is not hating.

The TL can probly get off the line quicker because its a front wheel drive car The R/T is rear wheel it has a longer drive shaft

magnum rt is awd i believe and even still rwd cars get off the line better than fwd cars cuz the weight gets shifted to the rear wheels for better traction

I do not know the specs on the 05 model but the 07 R/T can be either AWD or RWD.

Here is my run against a Magnum R/T with an intake. They're not slow cars at all especially off the line.

At the time of the Magnum R/T race, I had an intake pipe from the 350Z which may or may not add 1hp. It's mostly for sound. Everything else was stock on my auto G35 sedan. I now have an intake manifold spacer which gained me a consistent 1.5mph (almost 100mph) in trapspeed in worse weather conditions, but I've never been able to beat the 14.3 that I ran in cool fall air. I think I can grab a 14.2, maybe a 14.1 this fall. I also have an exhaust midpipe from the 05+ sedans which uses a 70% smaller resonator and weighs about 30lbs less, but the performance gains are nill. It's really just for sound.
