6spd vs 5at TYPE S

well currently I have a 2004 6spd with 70,000 miles love it dearly never really owned a auto before, but know I think it's time to part, gonna trade it in for a 2008 types brand new , but there's one problem only automatic are left (not too happy about that).. My question is how much quicker is the 6spd types compare to auto,is there really a big gap?.. The only advantage for me is I never have to worry about a clutch job again......

It's a pretty good difference, but not over-whelming. About what you'd expect I guess. Lower gear acceleration is where you'll notice it most I guess.

^^^I agree. That's why I think you should stick with a manual tranny, and not go for any auto's. I don't think you'd be happy with the performance or the overall "driving experience". 2 cents.

Well at only 70,000 miles, you shouldn't have to worry about a clutch job for a long, long time.. unless you're doing something extraordinary or incorrectly.

Think of this. With a manual versus an automatic, it's not about the difference in performance so much. It's the difference you enjoy every time you drive your car. Just the sheer act of shifting and the feeling of the one-to-one relationship between your drive train and you is enough to qualify your decision.

My previous 2 cars were manual (330i and TL) and i just got the Type S auto. No regrets. It's a nice change and the auot Type S is just as fast if not faster than my 6speed TL. Its different but not different to where I regret my decision. Sometimes its just nice to kick back and let the tranny do the work for you.

I'm got a stick tl-s and i love it, I test drove the auto when I first at the dealership and was about to buy that one but then I thought lets see how the tl-s manual is and fell in love with it as soon as I pulled out of the lot. I felt as though it was much sporty then the auto and since I was already buying a car with 4 doors (which i was against at first), I wanted something that would still feel like a sports car.

Agreed. I have a 5spd matrix that's only a bit faster than a corolla, but the feeling of control that you get is just so much fun.

I read the 07 TL-S auto is 1 second slower in the 1/4 mile then an 07 TL-S manual.

R&T did 13.9 at the 1/4 mile (6MT w/Summer Tires)

I did 14.4's - 14.5's (best of 14.37) (5AT with MXM4's - :uhg: - modest weight reduction, no HP mods).

IOW - I don't buy a 1 second difference. 1/2 sec give or take a tenth or two.

I never could find a published 5AT 1/4 mile time.

Why is your clutch wearing badly? Is there something wrong with the system such as a failing hydraulic system, pressure plate, or perhaps defect parts?

Let me ask you this. Describe how you downshift.

My 04 has 81k and is going strong. I would never drive an auto unless I commuted in heavy traffic every day. This is the longest I have ever kept a car and I still really enjoy driving it. (...and I had a 97 Ram Air Formula with plenty of mods) Autos are boring and

After owning a new 06 Accord loaded auto, a new 06 TL loaded auto, a new 07 TL-S auto, and currently driving a 2007 Civic Si, I LOVE manuals! Keep the stick. I am tradding in my 07 Si on a certified, MINT, MANUAL, NAV 2006 WDP TL with 28k miles TODAY. I can't wait!!!

KEEP the manual. Nothing compares.

loss of power drastic ,and went to dyno couple weeks ago that's when I found out car still drives just takes even longer to get up to speeds hard to explain but if you're use to your car you'll know when something ain't clicking ,I'm thinking first owner put significant wear on it got it with 46k..........

find a used 6speed, you don't want to deal with not having the extra throttle response

The clutch assembly has no effect over the production of power. However, it most definitely effects the delivery of engine power to the transmission. If the engine is operating as it should, then what you're describing sounds like you have a major slippage problem which would be easy to feel and diagnose.

Is the clutch slipping as in serious slippage?
