6MT vs 5AT

I am still on the fence with which one to choose. I keep hearing things about the 6MT that make me unsure...

-Same price as the 5AT
-Lower resale in the future
-Smaller pool of potential buyers at resale
-Dealers misleading us on 6MT delivery dates
-May have to settle for a 2nd/3rd color combo due to limited availability

My dealer here in New Orleans doesn't have a clue. I feel like they are more in the dark concerning delivery times than I am. I really would like to have the car before January. Should I wait, or get the 5AT? Any help would be appreciated.

I can only speak from experience. I had a manual Jaguar years ago. Granted they were not the most reliable cars, but as far as the manual transmission goes, I had 3 replacements in 30,000 miles, only one under warranty. I was accused of burning the clutch by leaving my foot on it while driving etc. This was never the case. Every time the engine/transmission was removed to replace the clutch I regretted the day I didn't get an automatic, and that was the last manual I owned.

Also tight parking with a manual is no picnic.

Just my opinion.

Question is; are you a true driver or not. There is no substitute for a stick.

Thr MT is actually more as you have to buy the package with the Brembo brakes.

The resale price will definately be lower as you correctly pointed out, as there is a much smaller market for this feature.

I do not know about colour chices, but I would bet as they are not making as many, the choice will be less than the AT.

If you are more concerned about things like resale value than the driving experience get the automatic.

The 6 speed is all about driving enjoyment. I own a 2003 CL-S and wouldn't have bought the car if it didn't come with a stick. But, it's totally a matter of what you are into. Not only does the "Dynamic Package" come with Brembo brakes, but it also comes with thicker sway bars for better handling.

Get what YOU want. Avoid basing your decision on factors that outside your control or would compromise your enjoyment of the car.

Me? I'll get the 5AT because I spend too much time in rush hour traffic to enjoy a manual. My first two cars were 5 speed sticks and they were fun, but in bumper to bumper they wear out your left leg. Oh, and by the way I enjoy driving as much as any stick owner.

Exactly. That should be the determining factor. Whether or not you spend too much time in stalled traffic. Otherwise, I'd recommend the stick. No substitute. I drive a stick, but when the traffic backs up and you move six feet at a time, your left leg will fall off....LOL.

decky,

If you're going to hang on to the car for a long time, then get the manual if that's what you realy want. I bought a Legend seden back in '90 with a 5 speed manual. I loved it but when it was time to sell it in '96 (with only 50k on it), everyone was in love with the car until they found out "it's a 5 speed?". I practically had to give the car away.
