6MT Owners Comment From Service
Brought in my 04 6MT TL for Oil change (32,000 miles) and as the service guy gave me back the keys after the job he said "Nice to see someone bring in a 6 Speed in that car, I am sick of driving the automatics"
Just thought I would share for you 6Spders

Comments about the 6m are many from my friends, just this week this friend from work (whom if he didn't smoke I would ask him to commute with me but...) was following me to work one morning and when we caught up later that day at the cafeteria he said that he knew I had a stick when on a cold morning he was watching both of my exhausts push out the warm air which looked like smoke and then when I shifted it would stop and come back with force again and again, also said it was the coolest thing he's ever noticed on any car with a dual exhaust , go figure
, easily amused...?

I have bought 2 6spd TL's ('04 for the ex-wife and then an '05 for me since she took the first one). The dealer told me that approx. 7%-10% are 6spds, I had a hard time finding mine in late May of this year. But, generally speaking the deals are better from what I found in the summer.
Long live the 6spd

hey coop, what dealer did you go to. i take my car to west chester acura on 202. its funny because everytime i take my car for service there is an area where you drive your car, get out and let the service person take over. everytime like clockwork, she gets in and gets right back out and all the service guys laugh at her bc she does not know how to drive stick. i guess its good she is not learning off of my car. i had a really hard time finding what i wanted. i couldn't find any 6mt with navi. all the cars that i have seen had either or, but not both. im so happy i found it.
I know... Someone else up above thought they were lame though. I mean for peace of mind when it comes to operation, autos are great too.

Well the grease monkeys like to drive stick for sure. They test drove my 6MT for 22 miles after service, that too when I had refuel light on. I took the delivery and was stranded on highway. This was way back in 2004 though for my 1st service. Ranted at the dealer but we know nobody at Acura service gives a damn. Next time onward I stick a note on my NAV saying no test driving unless owner is present and check my milage in and out of dealership.
This is exactly why I say fvck that and make them give an estimate as to how many miles they need to drive the car, at most, during the service. Hopefully less than 0.5 if its not anything that needs to be replicated on the road.

I just went in for oil change..10 minute job. I do all service on my car other than this (brakes, rotation, fluids, etc.) so I know he only got it into second gear and did not take it for a test drive,. He simply was commenting that he never sees a 6 speed in that car and it is nice when he does> End of story.
Did anybody learn to drive stick on their new TL? I am shopping around for a 6-speed TL right now...trying to get some end of year deals. I'm not a completely noob with a stick, I won't stall it generally, but it won't be pretty.
Also, how many of you 6-speeders deal with rush hour traffic everyday? I live in Atlanta and have a 20 mile one way commute to work in heavy traffic....I think I am being a glutton for punishment.

rush hour and traffic in general suck for a MT. those are times when i wish i had a auto. i only live 10 mins from my job so my commute is really short. but especially during the holidays traffic is out of control . i wouldn't trade my MT for anything.

I'd say get a some POS beater to learn stick. However, if you will not stall it, then I think you can go for TL and get the feel in couple of days. I commute in my 6MT in the Bay Area traffic for 27 miles and about 35-40 mins one way. Some patches are stop and go for 3-4 miles. I do not feel any pains, it's istinctive once you drive stick. Stop and go or dead stop I will never buy auto.
I actually perfer a manual when it comes to traffic.
1. It makes traffic more interesting
2. I get better control when I am trying to squeeze someone out from getting in to my lane.

Absolute pain trying to get a 6 speed. Both dealerships around my area did not have any in stock. I ordered one and did not get a chance to test drive until I took delivery. Buick makes excellent cars for people who want automatics...
i agree it took me a long time to find a stick. one dealership told me that the only way you will see a stick on their lot was if someone was to order one. i hope the stick does not bring down the value of the car when i get rid of it.

When I went in to get my first service, the person who took my car in made a comment about my car being a 6mt and how rare they are. Ironically, there was another 6mt right in front of me in line - the first other 6mt I've ever seen (I know it's difficult to tell since it's hard to see the Brembos). The shuttle driver (who also was a mechanic - don't know why he was doing the shuttle) said they had only sold one 6mt in the last three months!
I agree the percentage seems to me to be less than 10%. However, during a similiar thread some one stated that a third of the cars in NC or some southern state was about a third 6mt. How about one of the dealers on the forum giving the actual percentage since Acura must know.
