Are 3rd Gens Having Motor Mount Issues?

FYI - if the 3rd gens use the same motor mount as the 2nd gens, you will want to check this link out.

From what I have read here, the only problem we have had is the mounts binding and needing to be neutralized on a few TL's.

The 3rd Gen uses different mounts. Even the way the mounts bolt-up to the engine block is different.

This was a project that I was pursuing until I found a better project. Here is the info that I have accumalated.

Innovative Mounts for 1998-2002 Honda Accord V6 (click here)

From my researching (comparing oem part numbers with TL and '02 Accord) and "looking under the hood" of 2nd and 3rd Gen TL, these mounts will work on the 3rd Gen TL IF you replace the engine bracket that bolts to the engine block with the bracket from a 2nd Gen TL. The assumption is that the mounting bolt holes are present in the 3rd Gen's engine block to bolt the bracket from the 2nd Gen. From looking, the front mount looks like for sure it will bolt-up. This would be a great starting point to control the engine twisting under loading.

Innovativemounts seem to be VERY WILLING to make custom brackets for a reasonable charge. I talked with them about doing a direct bolt-in for the 3rd Gen TL. They were ready to work with me..... I then found a better project for my TL that I am currently pursueing (unrelated to engine mounts).

Reply if you want me to be more clear and explain better.

But, here is the teaser. These mounts MIGHT fit the 3Gen. If you replaced the 3Gen's brackets (and use 2Gen's instead) that attach to the engine block (as shown in the illustration below), I think the mounts will fit. I am not pulling this out of my hat. I have a 2002 2Gen, and I have my 2006 3Gen. I compared both cars side-by-side. I took some quick-n-dirty measurements with a dial caliper. Although the 2Gen and 3Gen have differently designed mounts, the mounts have the same dimensions. The only thing that appears to be different is how the bracket (red arrow in pic below) attaches to the top of the mount. This is why a 2Gen mount needs to be used on the 3Gen. The only WILDCARD appears to be IF the 3Gen engine block has the same bolt pattern as the 2Gen engine block. And, it is a good bet that Honda did not change the bolt hole locations in the engine block. The only other WILDCARD is if the exhaust manifold would interfere with the different bracket because the exhaust manifold does fit tight next to the bracket.
