3rd Gen TL resale value: am I missing something?

I've been looking for a 2004-2008 TL here in the Chicagoland area for a while and I'm seeing a lot of relatively clean vehicles around 100k miles going from $4000-6000 (dealership pricing). That seems low to me—is this just evidence that these cars are generally undervalued? Expensive to maintain?

I've never owned an Acura, but need a quality new daily driver. So far I've been really liking what I'm seeing/reading about the 3rd gen TL.

It's a great car, and well-maintained cars that are relatively low mileage can go from $6K to over $12K.

Price all depends on how clean, well maintained and also accidents etc... I just bought an 05 TL 82K Miles, one owner clean carfax, always serviced at ACURA for $6000 and change.

Auto, realistically. Does the AT have tranny issues? Both my wife and I can—and will—drive stick

Geographic location plays a big part too, you have a public trans infrastructure, where I am in GA it is limited and therefore used cars cost more. TL's are not expensive to maintain at all

07-08 Auto's are better than the 04-06. Stay far away from the 04-06 Auto's, ticking time bombs if they aren't serviced regularly.

The 2004-2006 automatics are suspect, the 2004-2008 manual transmissions are pretty much bulletproof.

My 2005 MT TL is still going strong, hardly had to put anything into but scheduled maintenance items. I'll drive it until it gets too maintain, my favorite car I've owned.

Agreed, my 2006 6MT only has 160,000 miles on the clock; I fully expect it to last over 300,000 miles with nothing more than a timing belt, some seals, a few suspension components, and maybe a powersteering system replacement; all an all, it is quite inexpensive to maintain this car.

Last night I went to look at an 2005 TL, DGP (love this color, super rare here), one-owner, serviced every 5k miles at the same Acura dealership where it was first purchased. 122k miles. It was the first TL I have ever driven. Tried to get out the door for $5k, no dice so I walked away from it.

Duly noted on the auto trans. I like the 07-08 a little better for sure, and am hoping to find a Type-S. So are the 07-08 auto trans okay then?

Yes, the Type-S automatic transmissions have a pretty good reputation; that said, a clean and relatively low mileage example will typically cost you $10,000.

Finding the Type S is not a problem, finding a clean Type S with decent price will be a problem.

Stick with a stick, most auto type S I have seen in the wild are beat within an inch of their life at this point... I watched the market for a while before I pounced (08 NBP TLS 6MT). If i was to do it all again, I would find the cleanest stick 04-06 TL i could and run it into the ground.

It's a car that's 11-15 years old, and has a few big ticket items that'll send the car to the junkyard. Trans, 105/210/315K services, any sort of A/C repair, brake repair, etc.

Only car that's really holding value is TL-S with clean title and 6spd manual trans.

The 6MT versions of the 2004-2006 are holding their values pretty well too.

Yeap especially here around NY/NJ area. Clean, no accidents will cost you a whole penny. Clean TL-S with no accidents is like non-existence or crazy priced.

$6100 out the door. Which isn't terrible, but I was more interested in getting a read on their motivation to sell. I may hit em up again on the last day of the month. Maybe I can get some WeatherTech mats and a case of oil filters...
