I had AutoMallTintFactory tint my TL last June. They did an excellent job. I've got Suntek HP20 on the rear window, SuntekHP 35 on the rear door windows and V-Cool 70 on the front door windows. Plus felts front and rear. No scratches. No problems with the navi. If I remember correctly, it cost me around $450. I'm very satisfied with it.

Well with everyone talking about the Suntek being Ok I may just do the Suntek 35 all around. The v-cool sounds "cool" but I want the front windows tinted and 70% just ain't going to do it.

I'm as well getting 35% all around.
Have no idea about metallic or not, but as long as it won't interfere the Navi function, I'll go for it!
Either in Automall, or Rocky mountain, I'm going for the lower quote!

so whaddaya guys wanna do? A few people have the suntek here on the forum with no issues, so if I go with automall I'll definitely go the 20,35,70 route or all 20 in the rears with 70 fronts.

I'm more particular with the guy in fremont only because he's gotta real good rep as far as tinting goes, he's got contract tinting work with Concord Acura, and his shop is hella close.

So if rocky mountain can do it at a good price, I'm either gonna have to rent a car or just hang out at the shop all day.

GUJU: got you down for 2 vehicles.
Jeffa: Thanks for the heads up.

With Guju in with 2 cars, plus I think somebody else chimed in with their car, I'm sure I can talk automall down to $275 cash if your going suntek all the way around and that's with felts installed.

I don't even know if the guy is cutting you a deal, I called by myself and he quoted me $300 for suntek and 500+ for the huper optik for just my car. It seems like a lot of money to get a metallic film that i'm not too happy with either I know other people don't have problems, but for that much money it should be a non-issue. Might just wait until I take a trip down to LA and get it done at Best Window Tinting, people are quoting $160 for all 5 windows and felt installed.

good call gromice. I figured as much he really wasn't cutting a deal. Since tinting is a seasonal thing, he's gotta get paid while he can I guess. Yeah, I could wait till september, even october. Hell, summer is practically over anyway once this month is done and I know tinting business will begin to start and slow down so we can use our numbers as leverage.

At least we know right now how much these guys are charging around the peak season for 1 car. If everyone can wait, we could really bargain this down. 10+ cars isn't chump change especially if it's all cash under the table for the guy doing it.

There's another shop right by the honda/harley motorcyle sales building. I think they have a contract with BMW cause that's all I see for the 2 times I swung by and plus my friend got his 330 done there. I'll see what they can do for 1 car only , then go from there.

You know, I am so back and forth on this. I want to get it done, but now that summer is mostly over, why not wait and save some money in the offseason. And I also go back and forth between getting the cheap metallic tint (which I'm not crazy about) and the Huper Optik.

Ed, what exactly did he say/describe about the ghosting when using 30% Huper Optik in the rear? I've never heard of that. I may try and stop by the shop at lunch to check out some of the work.

Just wonding if anyone went with the Automall. I was looking into it while back but just didnt' have time to get it done. If you did get it done there, please let me know if you are satisfied with the job and how much you paid and if you have navi if you have any problems with the tint. Thanks.

hey brian, might as well wait, cause when it slows down for these guys, it's REALLY slow. Ghosting I believe is another term for bubbling. Honestly, when I saw the G35 he had just finished, you really can't tell the difference between 40% and 30%. I'm sure other vendors would probably try and do it if they carry the Huper Optik line, but since that film is pretty expensive, I don't know if they would take the chance of scrapping a whole windshield of film if there is in fact ghosting issues with 30% when dealing with big sheets.

I've waited almost 3 years now. Guess a few more months won't make a difference!

Well I just went in there during lunch to check it out. They were working on a brand new Lexus IS350 getting 20/30/50%.

I talked to the guy for a while and this is what I concluded.
I don't think I like the look of the Huper Optik. It is shinier than the Suntek (especially the 30% and 50% films) almost like a full metallic tint but not that bad. He really only recommended HO on the sides, not the rear. But given it is only a 10% difference in the amount of total sun energy reflected, and it isn't that bad here in the Bay area, I am thinking the money/trouble isn't worth it. So now I am back to Suntek all the way around. He recommended 20% in the rear but nothing darker than 40% up front (due to cops) so I'm stuck debating 20%/40% or 20%/30% (take my chances) or something silly like 20%/30%/40%. The different shades on the lexus looked fine but it was also a black car and the rear windows are smaller. With the TL the rear windows are almost as big as the front and therefore a difference would be more obvious.

As for pricing he quoted the same as the guy above. $300 cash for Suntek but $40 for the felt.

Ed, if the $300 price you negotiated included felt, I may go ahead and do this if he'll honor it. It beats paying $274 to drive all the way to pleasanton and get no felt installed by Rocky Mountain. So I think the felt is where he is giving us a slight deal.

Let me know what you guys think?

yup, pricing included felt and the kicker is at least 3 cars must schedule on the same day in order for us to get that pricing which I can understand cause you never know who's gonna back out, etc.

So I guess it's somewhat of a deal.....save $40 bucks.

Yea i have had my car for a year and a half, so I guess waiting a few more months won't make a difference to me either. It's good to know we have a good list of people who are interested in getting their windows tinted. I'm sure with a little patience we can strike a better deal when summer is over...

Hmm, ok, it seems like most people are ok with/want to wait a few months so I'll see if I can manage some patience as well.

Sorry guys i got no patience.

Gonna get 3m CS at California Auto Tinting or something like that on Tuesday. $400 for everything, and they remove all your windows to tint, and then bake it on so you don't have to wait for it to cure. Its kind of expensive, but they give a lifetime warranty on everything and moleskin is included. More than I wanted to pay, but I'm getting the film I want and some piece of mind.

felt is used so your tint doesn't get scratched as you roll up/down your windows.

Wzup guys. Count me out of the group tint thing. I needed my tints done and no one ever decided to start it so i went ahead and got them done. O yeah. A good reputable place to get windows tinted at is The Detail Factory and San Francisco. Heres a link. Check it out. They did an EXECELENT job on my TL. http://www.thedetailfactory.com/home.html

excuse me "special-ed". If you were reffering to me as an "idiot" i suggest you wait for a couple months and really see if this group tint will happen. No one is really urging anyone to get the tint done. As well as you calling me a idiot ill let it slide just cuz you got a good looking TL .

Sorry to post again but just to let everyone kno, The Detail Shop does 5 window tint for 225 OTD. They use a tint called Johnson. Im not sure ont he spelling of the tint but it sounds like what its spelled as. It took them about 3 to 4 hours to fully complete the job. They also have many more services and they also have a great reputation in San Francisco, they've been in business for over 20 years.

dude if you would have read through this page of posts alone, you'd see that yohan, brian, snafu, and derek are all down to wait which is including my GF's car and the additional people yohan was bringing in. That's already like 8-9 confirmations. There's nothing else to push until the couple of months have passed and yohan has his ride ready to roll.

if you would have read the previous posts and just sat tight, we could have brought more buying leverage to the table to a well known shop in the tint industry during their slow part of the season. it's not rocket science man - supply and demand.

people will back out, that's expected. so thanks for the comps and am glad you've got your tint.

$380 sounds a bit much. I tint TL's for Azine members for About $250 with felt now. Use to be $220, but since TL's and TSX had retarded window gasket engineers it makes the car 10x's harder than it should be. But no matter what anyone says about going with cheap film, don't do it! I would hate to see a nice TL with purple film.
