3M CS 35% window tint -$380

Am I am being taken for a ride here? This is with the felt being installed. 80$ extra for the felt.

Johnson film is $230 +80 =$310.

I find it a little too expensive. Any one have comments?

Thx.

I got charged $250 for 35% 3m CS for 7 windows and thought it was a little much. For felt, i installed it myself which is very simple to do.

You shouldnt get 3m CS if you dont plan to keep your car too long. Just pay less if you wont keep your car for long so go for a cheaper tint

I got quoted $375 for Pinaccle F1 Ceramic (no moleskin) at Rocky Mountain in Pleasanton. Seems a bit much and still contemplating what to do.

hey man, there's a real good tint shop down here in fremont off of automall parkway.
Am thinking about getting mine and my GF's accord done. If you jump in, maybe we can get a better discount since we're bringing in 3 cars. Lemme know!

Do you mean Automall Tint? I hear they do a good job and has good rep. They carry Huper Optik tint too.

Yeah, I believe it's them....I've got the guys business card laying around somewhere. It was like late last summer when I spoke to the owner. Huper Optik rings a bell as well.

I just remember he was gonna do my tints the way his AMG was setup. Standard tint film for back and rears then he had this other tint (I believe it was the Huper Optik) that was actually lighter but could block out more UV than a standard darker tint film and we were going to put this on my fronts. This film for example would be a 50% but had UV blocking properties of a 20% film so we could keep the fronts lighter for police issues but it would still keep things cool in the front seats.

I may just wait out till summer ends so I can negotiate for a cheaper price when tint business starts slowing down.

Yeah, he said it was a bitch to put on (which drives up the cost) which is why he recommended just doing the fronts. He said he avoids using it on the rear windshield because it's hard to work with and hates having to junk large pieces of expensive ting. It's amazing how much UV/heat the Huper's block out though. After feeling the difference during the demo, I'm sold on the Huper Optik for at least the fronts.

I paid $250 for the 3M CS. I thought it was a fair price considering it was a higher quality film and non-metallic. $380 sounds a bit much. A lot of people around here put the moleskin on themselves that could save you a little bit.

I'd definitely be down.

Do you know how much he was quoting? What films does he use beside huper optik?

I would consider doing the huper optik on everything but the rear if they have it darker than 50%. I want 35% all the way around.

Let me know and if the price is right and they have a good rep I'll be there in a heartbeat. I can ditch the idea of going all the way to pleasanton for a $375 tint job.

Thanks!

hey brian/gromice, i'll swing back by his shop tomorrow late morning and see what I can work out for 4 cars.

my GF and I will go the huper optiks up front and then use a different film for the 3 rears. I'll find out what other film he's got. If I remember correctly, he carries 3-4 different films. You can definitely get the Huper all around less the rear windshield but it'll be pretty pricey I think. I gotta find that business card since he has a written quote on it for just 1 car though - I think it was around the $350 range.

I was just going to wait till fall to get this done (more negotiation leverage since tint business starts to slow down) but if we have 4 cars we should be able to get a good deal.

I'll let you know what happens.

Also, he doesn't use moleskin cause it will scratch. He was telling me that he actually cuts part of the window seal off so it won't scratch at all.

I found the business card. It came out to be $380 via credit card or he said he'd go $290 cash. The quote was for Suntek HP for the rears and V-Kool for the fronts.
Here's the weblink so you can see the other other lines he carries.

www.automalltintfactory. com

Here's more info on v-kool
www.v-kool. com

So I'll negotiate first for 1 other car (my GF's) to see how much he goes down to. Then once I get that price, I'll ask for 3 cars, and then for 4 cars.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread!!

If you go for suntek on the rear windows, are there any issues of dye turning purple, or interrupting nav signal? being a metallic tint and all i'm not sure how that all works

Hey all,

I moved out to the bay area from the east coast about two months ago and my 05 TL Navi is getting shipped out here in about three weeks. I plan on getting tints once the car is out here so definitely count me in as an extra person if you guys are going to negotitate for a deal whether at Automall or Rocky Mountain.

Just a little FYI - I have Navi so I perfer either 3m or Pinnacle F1.
Hyper Optiks sounds good but it all depends on the price. I perfer having the same brand of film for all my windows.

Thanks guys. Keep me in the loop!

ok guys here's the breakdown if I get 5 cars to come in including mine and my GF's accord:

Suntek HP for Rears with Felt installed = $200 cash
Suntek HP for Fronts (windows only) w/ felt = $100 cash
Huper Optik all around w/ felt = $550 cash
Suntek HP Rears and %70 V-kool fronts w/ felt = $420 cash

The original pricing he gave me was from a quote over 1.5 years ago, so pricing really has only gone up on using the V-kool since V-kool has upped their price considerably since they basically have that niche market cornered. Plus he's got lease bills to pay so I can understand the increase in pricing. Suntek pricing pretty much remains the same all around except he will throw in the install for the felt for fee.

For Huper Optik interest, highest tint grade is 30% from what I remember. He just finished a G35 sedan when I was there where he put 30% in the fronts and rears and 40% in the back. Looked pretty damn clean to me and very classy.
He won't do 30% in the rear windshield because he gets "ghosting" problems which is why he went 40% for the very rear.

V-kool only comes in 70% which he uses primarily for the front windows only. Suntek you can go down to limo tint or close to it and also he hasn't had any issues with people reporting issues with their navi's.

They also have contract work with Acura of Concord and are on location there every wednesday, so Sidney (the owner) is very familiar with our TL's.

If I can get maybe 7 cars total, I could probably talk him down maybe another $15-20 off.

Also, he's booked solid until 8/14 so this gives us a couple of weeks to coordinate things.

Let's start a list for members who are interested.
1. me
2. GF's accord.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.

Hmm, I was seriously considering the huper optik, but given the price (I know it is better so it should be more expensive) and that he won't do 30% in the rear, I'm not sure now. What is the ghosting? Is it too reflective on the inside and you see the interior in the rear view mirror?

That pretty much leaves me with the suntek and that price would be similar to Rocky Mountain but closer and easier to get to.

Even though he and others say the metallic tint will be find I still find myself a little hesitant.

Hmm, I will have to think about it.

no problem, I'm going with suntek and v-kool. he's got one of the best reps as far as tinting goes in the bay area, plus I like the fact he's a guy doing what he does best. I don't mind paying other hustla's. GL.

You're ok with 70% up front? That would just spoil the looks for me and I'm comfortable taking the risk with the cops.

well cops around here are pretty pricky about the fronts being tinted. my car's already modded so don't need the extra hassle, drama, paranoia and attention. Waste of my money, and more importantly of my time.

if you're driving around in a stock tl, probably less risky. Then again, if mr po-po has hatred against guys that drive in a 35k car, tough luck. If they do pull you over, they'll give you the option of paying a ticket or you pulling off the front tint while he stands there to watch you do it. Trust me, I've seen it happen on a car with just 50% fronts. Either way it's money out of your pocket.

I'm fine with the 70's up front because it will look like I have no tint, but yet I'll be blocking out a good amount of UV because of the v-kool technology. Plus I like people to see my face as I pass their asses by.

and the Suntek is pretty much what he uses when they do jobs over at Concord Acura. Not 1 complaint about interference with the navi.

I was quoted 274 for metallic (don't remember the type) and $374 for Pinnacle F1 at Rocky mountain so it seem starting out rocky mountain is cheaper than Automall for the metallic tint.

I suggest you go with 35%, it really isn't that dark. Its actually a lot lighter than the pictures people post here. You can see the person in car and everything inside it. I think its too light now. I live in the bay area too and haven't had any cops hasseling me
