3G TL 5AT vs. Infiniti FX45

So I was at the stopsign past this intersection/stoplight at a gas station I had just left. There was this guy there in the station with an Infiniti, but I had to recall that after the fact as I had not originally thought much of it. I guess he was checking me out and when I came out and pulled back out on the street, I guess I was right behind him. I noticed it looked like he had an aftermarket exhaust on it or something, because the pipes seemed pretty large coming out the back. It was an FX45, so maybe this is stock....I dont know. Anyway...when the light turned green....he smashed it and took off.....so I in turn, being right behind him, did the same. I could see him peering in the mirror at me as I slowly pulled right up behind him as he had it smashed. The within about 1/4 mile....there is another stop sign at a set of railroad tracks....then a straight shot for about 1/2 - 3/4 of a mile or so to the next stop sign...so good spot, before residentual and still in industrial area...so all good. Anyway...I see him look kind of suprised in his rear view as I am grabbing his bumper.....and he stops and the next stop sign....me right behind him. He proceeds....and so do I, but he doesnt immediatly smash it - but is just looking in the rear view at me as if he is gonna teach me a lesson but wants me to know I had every shot at it (cant blame it on the tracks or something, I guess?) ....so he waits until I cross too and then just smashes it to the floor (evident by the scream from his exhaust and puff of smoke) and I follow suit with the same smashing it down to the floor. As he smashed first...he took off real quick on me pulling about 2.5 lengths on me right off.....I smashed and immediately started making ground on him until I was in his back seat. I could see the frustration in his face as he figured he was gonna teach this Acura a lesson as he could not shake me....and frankly....I was a bit suprised myself....but always willing to go for it! We got to the next stop sign and he just waives as I have my signal on to turn and he is going straight, but I think he learned something about the TL today, and so did I. As I was in his back seat, I could read the emblems clearly....FX45. I was suprised he was not able to pull away from me and lose me though...and I think he was equally suprised too! You got to love making them think twice about us Acura guys! It is a bit of a whale though at 4533# compared to my around 3840# or so.

FX45 Base MSRP $49,750*4.5-liter 32-valve V8 with 320 hp and 335 lb-ft of torque ATTESA E-TS AWD (All-Wheel Drive) Includes 20" wheels and 265/50R20 all-season performance tires 4533# though!

your car doesn't weight 3840lbs closer to 3500 and you should be able to take him. those are quick but very heavy and a stock TL should beat a stock FX45 hands down. still always great to show people who think their car is faster than yours what is really up.

Actually, the FX45 weighs 4,500 lbs . A stock FX45 should give a stock TL 5AT a good run for the money until the triple digits hit. If I'm not mistaken, they are capable of 1/4 mile times in the upper 14s, trapping at ~94mph.

Your right.....3591# listed on site w/ Navi auto. I was a little overweight there in my initial quote.....was going on memory there. I just knew that whale was way heavier than I had to be....I was just a bit suprised that I could hang with the V8....think he was too!

after looking at your sig you aren't close to stock, you should be able to smoke a stock FX45 easily with the mods you have.

well...i didnt go for the reckless pass or anything.....but I do feel as if I could have given some room....if I would have set him up right...most likely could have done it before the next sign with no prob.....but wasnt into pulling the reckless move on him or anything, just let him try to run from me and see what I could do, given I was already behind him from the get go at the original stoplight....never know...may be one of the neighbors you have to face later? i always hate hearing those people bitch at those annual meetings! they already put out in the flyer that some "kids" have been burning the tires, ect at the front of the neighborhood...(lol) I think that was me they were talking about....woops! Me and the other old man down the street with the hopped up RX7.....we both like to burn the tires out on 106th from time to time pulling out of the neighborhood. The kids just make a lot of "exhaust can" noise...lol.

Anyway....ya.....I guess I should have been able to take that FX45. Its got a bigger motor than both my Acura and Lexus (GS400) though.....and I still think that Lexus seems to pull harder than my Acura does? (V8 to V6 though) Although I have never ran the GS and timed it to see what it does....

Wow, I would figure the FX45 to leave you but with your mods I see why not. The FX35 shouldn't be a problem for a TL at all. I love those trucks and that exhaust sounds nice as hell.

That exhaust note is pretty distinct. Too bad my 05 Murano has the neutered version of that exhaust note.

Don't forget that's also because of the RWD vs FWD. RWD cars always seem to be faster than they actually are in most cases.

You know...that is a VERY good point! Makes total sense when you think about it....you could even think about it as simple as this....when you were a kid...didnt it always seem like you went faster when you got pushed in the wagon than if somebody pulled you>? Same person....runs same speed, right? Rear wheel drivers do "feel" like they go faster for same reason....you are being pushed instead of pulled. Almost a feeling of get-up-and-go instead of come-on-lets-go? You are in front of drive wheels.

exactly - that is why you will rarely ever see a front wheel drive car be called "fun to drive" by one of the know-it-all car mags/shows. it really is true though, a rear wheel drive car just feels more natural in that way

I'm not sure I agree with that totally. While RWD carry a better balance when it comes to performance, I can think of several FWD cars that are fun to drive: B18C Integra, Civic Si, RSX-S, Altima V6, TL 6MT and Maxima come readily to mind.

Even in that last C/D Comparison (featuring the TL, G35S and IS350), the TL was remarkably comparable to its RWD counterparts in terms of handling, balance, braking & acceleration.

I am suprised you didn't smoke him with your mods. Even a stock TL should be able to beat that heavy SUV!! I raced a BMW X5 and to my suprise I was able to beat him by a good 3 car length. Later he got scared on the next light and turned off.

Which X5 was it? It probably was the 3.0i or the 4.4i because if it was a 4.8i (?) liter engine..it wouldn't have been that bad of a race.

Did you read the thread...yep....could have if I wanted to fly around him like one of those kiddie newbie 16 year old drivers, putting everybody at risk on the road around me....I WAS BEHIND HIM ALL THE TIME FROM THE STOPLIGHT! Sure...I could have whipped it out in oncoming traffic like Starsky and Hutch and flew around him......but is this really a good idea, just to make a point? Now had I done this....this thread would be riddled with flaming about how I was being unsafe and putting everybody at risk....been there read that man! I am old enough to know, even behind em, when they cant shake me and that I can pass em.....no need for me to act irresponsible and put others lives at risk for my own ego nor to prove a point.

But if you read....yes....I did feed I could have went around him....and heavy SUV or not...your still against a 4.5 liter V-8 my friend.....and they do have some get up and go in em....trust me.

I hear you can smoke up to 4.6i but 4.8i is now quicker

4.6i is discontinued model.

I've been with 4.6 once. It does have lot of low end so guy got a car length in front of me. Then from 30 to 60MPH I gained my advantage.
