Jay Peg.. aka Peg Dog..

I'm going to guess at one point you got a flat and you had to drive on it?
Otherwise you hit the nastiest of potholes..

Glad you're still alive!
If that's actually mfg tire defect, I'm never buying Toyo.
You should check around to see if anyone has had that issue with those Proxes.

Reminds me of the Firestone recall..
Haven't bought Firestone since.

Wilderness AT's!
you should see the continental tires that the transits had in my dept...like 3 instances where the sidewall blew out with no warning...looked like a flower with perfectly concentric lines going all the way around.

It turns out that the bent rim (pre-existing condition from a nasty pothole) had a slow leak. The low pressure overheated the tire, causing the sidewall separation. I didn't notice until it started vibrating at which point it was too late. Toyo is still good . . .

real question is, is your road hazard protection still valid?

The problem with having a mechanic with an iron-hard . . . ethical standard is that he knows the rim had some damage when the new tires were mounted and won't submit it as a road hazard. He is compromising by replacing the tire at cost. I ordered a replacement rim from Rock Auto and the road hazard protection is still applicable for any future mishaps.

It's probably on me anyway not to have kept a closer watch on things, but the tire looked completely normal from the outside.

If I kept the TPMS functioning, that definitely would have clued me in. I was obviously being penny wise and pound foolish in that respect. (With "PMS" in the name, I should have known something bad related to it was going to happen sooner or later . . .)
