for example, i see traffic slowing down but not at full stop, i'll slow down stick it into first and just ride to when traffic does come to a stop... giving a 2 car gap until it does come to a full stop. This way, I'm not riding some ones ass and I'm not on the clutch, if I were to do Stop and go

I try avoiding driving in 1st. Sometimes you don't have a choice. In that case, I don't mind stopping and starting. No clutch riding. I'm sure stopping and starting wears the clutch as is, but at least you're not riding the clutch.

There's this 3-way stop I go through every day on my way home- it backs up sometimes to a cue of 25-30 cars. I just plop the car into first, time and again. The cars in front of me generally speed up (and then brake) faster than I, so once I'm in 1st and moving, I just take my foot off the gas and let the car move itself at a snail's pace. That way, rather than stopping 25 times for each car ahead of me to stop and go, I'll do it maybe 15 times. Helps a bit.
