Thanks for the suggestion. It looks like it is a hardware (screen) problem.
It turns out there is a way to check each possible touch point on the screen, and even make slight adjustments. In my case whole sections of the screen will not respond.

I was able to salvage four long tube LED light fixtures (think like fluorescent bulb style) from work. I tore down a facility just the other day, but was able to snag these before the building was demo'd. I was also able to get the 8 LED long tube bulbs for them, as well. Gonna have the brightest garage in the entire neighbourhood when I get these suckas hung and wired this weekend. Detailing time!!
I'm not exactly sure, to be honest. I'll have to open them up when wiring... the electricians just snipped the wires (AC90), a couple inches outside the fixtures. I'll likely open them up, remove that bit of wire and run just one length, as opposed to splicing.
I'm in a course today... and there's a cute chicka here. Funny thing is, she taught another course I took, a year or two ago. She can't be more than 26.
