If you had a buddy named Jack, and Jack was sitting on a horse... would you help Jack off the horse?

Random question, but does the KNEESMOW suffer from the same restrictive intake and exhaust "issues" as the regular 370z? I know on the latter you gain like 15 ponies to the wheel with intake and similar with x-pipe swap.

Well... Any stock exhaust and intake is restrictive. The Jizzmo exhaust is a bit more free flowing than the regular 370z exhaust, but, gains can still be had with an aftermarket exhaust. The problem with the factory Nismo exhaust- even though it's made by HKS, its way too quiet.

There's no point just upgrading the x-pipe. Might as well get a whole exhaust. If money is tight, the invidia exhaust is a good cheap solution. If money is no object, check out the motordyne shockwave exhaust. I hear it sounds like God is talking to you, it sounds so good.

Same with the intake. If dynos are to be believed, most any air intake seems to open up an additional 15hp/15lbft. Whatever the gains are, the intake dynos show power gained throughout the entire rpm range.

Personally, I'm looking at the new aem intake system. They're more of a SRI system, but with nice insulating covers for the filters. My only reason for leaning towards these is I don't have to take my bumper off. Not that I can't... But I'd rather leave shit as original as possible. Dynos seem to indicate similar gains as true CAIs.

Oh and intakes are the same between the Nismo and other 370zs.

Fair on the exhaust being expensive, but intake is probably cheaper for similar gains anyway. I was just curious is NISMO meant slightly better performance than base. I don't understand why they made it quiet though. :S

As for SRI vs CAI style, I figure it matters less for here and there spirited driving in Canada. Weather's colder on average so as long as it's shielded it should be good.
On the MS3 in summer CAI is beneficial because the engine bay gets stupid hot (1st gen MS3 gets heatsoaked real quick) but in winter a lot of people remove a pipe from the 3 parts CAI to turn it into a SRI for faster engine warmup.

I remember that one time just for kicks I tried doing my d2s bulb swap on the TL without removing the bumper because my bolts were rusted to hell and I was being lazy.

It was fucking stupid. You think it's gonna take 15 minutes, turns out to be a 1 hour deal cause you're working blind. So much for time saving

there was a difference... he didn't know how to do it... I don't want to do it! Those plastic clips always break, the aftermarket ones are shit and the oem ones are stupid pricey. I'd rather keep everything as original as possible on the car... when I sell it, I'll strip all the goodies off it and return to stock. The less effort it is to remove shit, the happier I'll be.

After taking my TL bumper off 8639275 times, I swear, nothing is like it originally was. I mean, the fucker still lines up and stays in place, but the plastic push clips are half mangled, and I'm pretty sure on one or two occasions I had an extra bolt remaining afterwards I do not want to follow suit with the nissan

Intake isn't overly cheap. The true CAIs go for around $500 US. The AEM one is a bit cheaper, at like $380 US. An invidia exhaust can be had for about $800 US.

I'm looking to source a gently used Ark exhaust, or Motordyne exhaust. They're fucking sexy, have no drone issues due to the helmholtz tubes (or whatever they're called), and are true dual exhausts, front to back.

I'm confused, aren't you going SRI?

Anyway, even the cheapest intakes are fine as long as you got a good filter on it. Doesn't get pressure and heat like exhaust side so as long as the welds aren't absolute shite, the biggest issue with the cheap stuff is fitment usually. No wonder it's the first mod every Civic owners does.

Yes, the AEM is more of a SRI, for $380. Just showing you what this shit goes for. And sure any intake gets heat soak. those shields are definitely required. I don't trust any cheap eBay shit either. Sure it looks ok... how big are the gaps in the filter though? Some fly by night shit... fuck that. Even the tube design has an effect on how laminar the air flow is going through it.

Gap in the filter? You don't use an eBay filter ever, you just swap it for a K&N.
As for tube design... it's almost a straight line man. Don't buy in that as seen on TV salesman bullshit about having the perfect mandrel bend and some rifling inside the pipe.

And yeah with how the VQ is designed and how far back you need to go as you said any intake's gonna get soaked eventually. It was problematic also on the 350z, even on the VQ35DE with only one TB.

If you think laminar air flow has nothing to do with bends, you should look into fluid (air?) mechanics. I'm not even talking about pipe smoothness.

gaps in air filter... I meant how porous is their filter? If you're already buying quality air filters, why not spend the 60 bucks more on quality tubing? I guess difference of ideologies...
