Average price of MID-level house: $650K in a NICE area. And apparently, there are parts of his city where you do have to duck bullets. Occasionally.

Don't slap me Taco. You are huge...and well, there's no whey my 5'8 -ness is taking down someone of your height and mass.
Unless, I do a running kick at your gonads.
But, I'd have to kick darn high.

Freaking esspensiff igloos where Taco's at. Most northern city you can think of. Horrid winters. Luke-warm to terrible roads (see pothole-city). 2 out of ever 3 windshields are cracked due to rocks/pebbles and the gravel that kicks up (from potholes). NOT world-class (compared to say, Calgary) but it's trying. Horrid hockey team.

yes, Calgary is a much nicer city. Won't deny that.
yes, we are pothole nation. This year was good though, due to the mild winter. But normally....
Yes, our hockey team sucks. Big time. But there's always next year, right?
The houses here are priced much lower than Calgary. Average home prices are 100k cheaper in Edmonton vs. Calgary. Just read a report on it, last week. You definitely don't have to spend 650k though. It really depends on what you're looking for, but, you can find a very nice house in a nice location for 475-525k. Still expensive, but better than 650k! for the record, we paid 410k for our house, on a big lot in a nice area.

all of this is partially true. I've been lucky- I've never had to replace a windshield on any of my cars, save for my first one, to date. While yes, rock chips do happen here... A lot... There's a simple way to avoid having them turn into cracks. Don't use the defroster setting when it is cold out! I mean, use it when you need it, but otherwise, don't blow hot air on the windshield when it's cold out. The temperature differential causes cracks!

Mind you, with the price difference between E and C, I will say this: It makes sense...the latter is a better city and if I had to pick, I would pay the hike because well, it's literally a 45-60 minute drive to the mountains? Geebers...and in some places in C, you could live at a location where you can see the mountains...sorta like in Vancouver, without giving up your kidneys, virginity, and selling all the kids. I'd do it.

On another topic, watching Trump talk yesterday on TV made me want to raff and cry at the same time.
Please tell me none of you peeps in here in the US of A are thinking of voting for him.

FWIW, with Calgary's sad (and pathetic) situation with the oil puke, you can get some NICE homes and cars for the cheap right now. Heaps of morons who thought they can afford a 3000 sq. ft. house with that 6-Series to go in the driveway are now...out of work.

Wifey and I still talk about moving to Calgary. It's not in the cards right now, but I could see it happening eventually. Still close to the family, but not close enough to be annoyed by the normal family drama

Anywhere else though, it's fair game. The same as me buying a house in the US.

100% agree. I wish my parents settled in Calgary when they immigrated to Canada. Oh well.

BUT, work visa...and well, get yourself into a long-term gig, apply for residency/citizenship...and boom, you're Canuckian. It's not that difficult...esp. if you're white. Seriously.

The problem is, cheap housing in Canada's major cities? Good ruck. It's stupid and stupid and more stupid.
Per my discussion with Taco about his city, that's full-retard. Then, Calgary...still full-retard. THEN, Chinacouver...BEYOND full-reteard. Toronnnah, same full-retard. Montreal? Sorry, you no speaka francais...so, you can no do no full-retard even if you wanted to.

Hmm. Thanks.
In about 98 years when I retire, I don't think I'd hate living up norf.
And I was just thinking about that, um, refugee thing you mentioned and wondering if it wouldn't make sense to expedite a, uh, "safe place" to hang out for 4 or 8 years.

The tax system is stupid. Socialist and so, you're paying out of your @$$...but, if you're a Californian, eh...it's about the same and so, you'd giggle. But, you don't have the beaches, the sun, and etc. of California. So...back to the original question...horrid winters, high taxes...
BUT...healthcare is not bad here...even if I've had my rants in the past about it. Safe. Good country to raise a kid...which I now have.
It's going to be home for awhile...Trump or no Trump...but yeah, if he becomes President, and I was still in Chicago, I'd pick up and move in with my relatives in Canada.

But, I'll admit, stupidity still exists in politics. Ask Taco about the idiot party that used to rule his province with an iron fist for since...like ever. The bitch Redford and her "sky palace" and using $$$$ money to fly her ugly-@$$ dyke daughter around?
How she escaped prison blows my mind.

Or how the governing health care system has executives billing for $20000 dinners, butler services, and installing gadgetry into their Mercedes.
I think scum like that actually ended up being PAID off by the company instead of jail. WTF.
