I took the C4 to give me more "boost" while lifting. It's funny you posted that picture because on one of my Local area forums they were talking about how the same situation we are talking about. I usually go 3-4 times a week, I used to only lift and not do any cardio, until people kept saying you have to do at least 15-30 mins of cardio.

Now when you say a "preworkout" shake, is there a certain one that you use?

Many people recommend whey all the fucking time. Some are confused by their newbie gains, some are high profile body builders with mesomorph body types. This is not applicable to all and I would never recommend it to someone starting. Regarding "preworkout" such as C4, it's only caffeine and vitamin B for the most part. That's why you piss yellow. It's not the best thing in the world but it can help have a more intense workout. It does not really help in gaining/losing anything and you can go without it. In that sense, a preworkout shake composed of carbs and protein is more beneficial. In your case you want to lose weight (fat), muscle will build itself no matter what as long as you have a sufficient amount of protein in your diet so the calorie deficit is your goal. Don't judge yourself by the weight alone, muscle weighs much more than fat per volume. Take a measuring tape to yourself and write that shit down every week or two. You might have seen this, it's a true thing: Always weight yourself in the morning first thing. Don't bother with comparing day with the day before, fluctuations are normal (hydration for instance), you want to look at the average. It's going down? It's working. It's steady? Your calorie deficit is not big enough (error in calculating calorie maintenance lvl, everybody is different). Enjoy yourself mostly and make working out something in your schedule that you do not derogate from. Think of it as taking a shower or brushing your teeth, except it takes more time. 3-4 times per week is the optimal number of workouts. If you're new to working out, search for compound exercises that target multiple muscles at once for the best effectiveness. No use working on your forearms alone... this is shit for the pros. Don't do too much cardio. Weight lifting can be safe and more effective than cardio alone. Girls will often run for 45 minutes and lift for 10 because they don't want manly arms... this is not how it works. They end up with very little muscular toning in their upper body. Bodybuilding is a world in itself and there's so many misconceptions, always doubt everything.

You want some carbs and protein as you workout and this is what it is.
If I need an extra boost, C4 works fine in my workout water. Take a few sips from it, go for a pee, start my cardio (10~15 mins) prior to my lifting and it's with me the whole time as I workout. Caffeine is very quickly assimilated in your body, 15 minutes or less for most people.
After the workout you want to replenish what you've lost and build some muscle. This is why you need more protein than preworkout and slightly less carbs. Carbs will bring protein to your muscle, they're the "vessel". You want to ingest carbs & protein within 30-45 mins MAX from the end of your workout. Shake is preferred for a lot of people because it's quick and easy.

Yep...I do not take any protein powder/supplements either. Only thing I take outside of straight-up whole food is vitamin D, C, and zinc.
Not going to pretend to be the next coming of Ah-nuld but I'm in pretty decent shape.

Good tip. It's not always a fun life to plan all your meals and reheat in advance. Supplements have their place in bodybuilding for people with a more difficult schedule. They're also easy to use (good or bad, this depends).

And I skimmed through DM first few posts in that thread, very good suggestions all along. He's a bit too intense about all the natty supplementing shit, but I don't think DM is known to be a quiet individual as a whole...

He has other posts in another thread about his meals. He cooks them in one sitting, tupperware and squared away for the week. Hardcore. Plus his regimen of natural supplements through the day, garlic, turmeric, acv, etc.. He drinks brew one day a week, eats a reggo meal with fam too, but da detox is brutal.. can't argue with the results.. and trust me.. DM is one serious mofo. PMP Engineer, he gets shit done, and he asks Obama some serious fucking questions that made him herpa derp. True story.

I do a pre-workout shake of my peepee. At the urinal.

I don't disagree. It's cool he's able to achieve that, I don't have the time nor the will to cook many meals in advance. Most of my meals are planned but I won't lie it has much room for improvement nonetheless. My BF is higher than his for this exact reason, currently standing at 156lbs with a 15-17% BF.

Sure...but, it's good fat. And if the rest of your day is pretty disciplined, I see no issue with fish at all.
My lunches are always the same: raw veggies (no dip/dressing), small block of cheese (i.e. Babybel), hard-boiled egg, and fruit (usually apple).
So, if I have some fish, the "fat" that's in it...doesn't hurt me.

Donut vs slab of salmon? The choice is obvious.

I've gained 10 from lifting over the last few years and doubt I can put on more...at this stage, it's just maintenance and trying to be as healthy as possible. I love food and will always have my cheat days (i.e. weekends) where I consume lots of sushi (i.e. white rice, bad!) and/or the odd day I go for beer, pizza, and wings with friends (i.e. teranfon tonight, bishes!)...

If one is willing to take the time to sculpt his/her body into great shape...then, how can one forego the other aspect, diet?!?? It's a contradiction. You gotta have both and gotta do both.
I am not going to say I've looked into it in detail but the long-term effects and what truly is in these protein shakes is shaky IMO...it sounds like an overhyped shortcut that ultimately, may have long-term effects that few know about yet. When in doubt, stick to natural whole foods.

I'm not nearly the sculpted monster some members are on AZ or even the best expert on nutrition and fitness...but, the most important message that DeathMetal has that I can agree is: stick to it. Nothing beats that. Eat right and exercise regularly. The rest, it's how far you want to go with removing salt, fat, carbs, and etc. from your diet and upping the intensity/time in your workouts to getting that much more.
But, if you stick to it...you'll achieve a figure/body 85-90% of the population would envy...What I do isn't that difficult, IMO. But, I'm not going to confess to working out like some pro athlete or eating like one either. My diet is as I've posted and my workouts are 5 times a week...it's solid, it's intense...I'm sweating like a dog afterwards.
