Actually, when I went out last night to get the helium tank to blow up the balloons, I found a Hot Wheels LaFerrari in the kids section for $1.

Also scored a Hot Wheels Huayra too.

Just thought I'd drop in and say hello. Hope everyone has a great weekend! I picked my car up from the Bodyshop earlier, and she looks nice. They ended up replacing the whole front bumper cover. It's smooth as a baby's butt with not one scratch on it. However, it is aftermarket and doesn't have Acura indented on it. That doesn't really bother me though. I'm just so glad to have her back. That Passat I had as a rental was just not appeasing to me at all! I always thought they looked pretty good going down the road, but then I drove one, and I was turned off. The TL has a hint of sportiness to it that makes it fun to drive IMO. The Passat is a straight up mom car.
pb, I really hope you get the tranny issues worked out. Mine was serviced by Acura at 36K and then I did a 3x3 myself with DW1 at around 75K. It still shifts smoothly with no issues. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will be fine for at least 4 more years. Most of my mileage is on the interstate, so I'm just cruising in 5th.
Anyway, I haven't eaten all day, and I'm thinking about some Hibachi Grill and/or Sushi.
You guys have a good weekend and be safe!

Happy you got the car back Jamie! I'm really looking forward to getting my paint cleaned up in a couple of weeks but kind of dreading the couple of days I won't get to drive her and will be forced into my parents' Civic

Haven't had sushi in forever - this makes me sad. Me and bandmates used to go every week for all you can eat sushi near our practice space and it was amaaaaazing.

If I look hard enough I can see a happy kid through a bunch of balloons!
Hope the bday was a blast!

Happy you got your car back, although I wouldn't accept a non OEM bumper cover just for the sake of me actually paying insurance so they replace it by the proper parts...

I'm sure my tranny will be fine. Probably. Maybe. Like I said I've been putting it off, it has not gotten "worse" in the sense that I started noticing it during the middle of winter but since then it has been pretty stable.

I'm sure the tranny will be fine too - But might as well do the switches and ATF sooner rather than later. I keep telling myself this as well and yet ...

I just really really want to get the skirts painted so I can get the lip kit and suspension and wheels on and stop looking at all these parts lying in my basement. And yes I realize this is most certainly a moment

Thought you bought the a-spec kit pre-painted?

Only reason I haven't done the switches + 3x3 is because it didn't seem necessary last year and then winter hit and it started doing it.

I did - sad story is, they no longer had ABP side skirts. So I got NBP side skirts instead and I'm going to get them painted ABP. Its going to be 200$ for the work, but I figured I wanted the kit bad enough to warrant the extra expense, since it was pretty much my #1 mod right off the bat.

My other plan was to potentially get the kit wrapped or plasti-dipped a darker neo-chrome - My uncle in Ukraine did that to his Audi Q7 (which was a similar dark blue to the ABP) and it actually looked fantastic. Right up until a Bentley ran into him and totaled it. Ukrainian roads, huh

They still have plenty of NBP since it wasn't discontinued in 05 like ABP was. Kind of sad too because I think the ABP is my favorite color out of all the TLs - I could have bought an SSM or an NBP instead and I got ABP because I've always loved the dark blue on BMW M cars and the ABP reminded me so much of that

I almost bought an ABP, it was really clean and it came down to this NBP and the ABP. Nearly a tie, the mileage on the ABP was slightly higher and the driver door lock actuator was fucked but otherwise both good. Price was slightly lower than my NBP haha

Honestly for me it was a matter of everything needed to be functional and clean - I had a bit of a strict criteria in terms of what I wanted and I'm surprised I made it work in my price range. I got mine for 13 800$ after taxes and fees, and this included pretty much all the inspection and e-test goodies, and I got the dealer to throw in plates because I was lazy and didn't want to do them myself.

Funny story though - I bought the TL primarily because it was literally the vehicle I got quoted lowest for on the insurance quotes I did. Lower than a Corolla, Civic, Camry, you name it. Weird huh

What sort of insurance and how much do you pay per year? I'm at $1000/yr for 1 million $ responsability, collision + fire at $250 deductible and vandalism + stolen at $100. There was a ~15$ difference if I put my deductible higher than that... said fuck it obviously.

Got my TL last July, 04 5AT NBP with 137km on the counter for $8600. Not in the books anymore because it's a 10 years old car so the seller "sold" me it for $1 at the registration.

Depends a lot on your age though. I'm 27 almost turning on 28 with no accidents and whatnot.

Since I don't know your age, I'll go with the quote my 21 yrs old brother got for a $4K car that's from 2006 or so... $3000!

4700 a year. Granted I only have my G2, but nonetheless this is with drivers ed and everything. I feel like I'm going to get laughed at here but that's just the reality of living in Ontario.

Not that terrible. My brother got a Coupe Cobalt 2005 for $4K and if he wanted to insure it for everything it would have been around $3K a year. He got only responsibility which is obligatory... You're driving a car with V6 in it, and although it's not a racing car by any means if you put one in the wrong hands it's easy to hit the ditch.

Man that cake looks great haha! That's not her first cake decoration right? Mad props for people who do that, I tried with a good friend once and she showed me some stuff... well when I made it it sucked pretty bad.

Where the F are you all shopping for car insurance? I just turned 25 and have a clean record, so mine just went down a bit.

I'm at $550/yr for $300k responsibility, $300k uninsured motorist, Collateral and collision deductibles of $2000 (I'll fix it myself if it's less than that).

1 Mill Responsibility?!?! Are you playing bumper tag with Lamborghinis?!?!

1 mill is the lowest responsibility you can get. 2 mill is starting to be the norm. also my rates are pretty good for Quebec, it's all about where you are I think haha. Sure if you live in the boonies $300K might be enough for responsibility, but for actual cities...

Even in the city, 1 million in damages, is this what accidents in real cities look like?

Only more expensive cars being hit and more cars.

I'm just playing, but really the minimum for responsibility here is 1 million. Nobody offers less. Anyway that's not what is expensive when it comes to insurance, it's collision mostly.

Coupe of any kind + 21 year old male = automatic fucked in the ass by insurance in Ontario

Yup, quoted for truth. I have 2 mil coverage, 1000$ deductible all around. Going with 1 mill somehow made my insurance more expensive. Yes, this makes no sense but that is literally what 3 brokers told me.

Welcome to Ontario, Canada. More specifically, the Greater Toronto Area, where you have the highest rate of automotive insurance fraud in Canada, and where the insurance companies are pretty much accepted to be the biggest scam artists there are. Now if you were in Manitoba, you'd be paying 1200$ all around because its mandated by their provincial laws I believe. Ontario has no such legislation, and that coupled with everything else pretty much means I'm paying more for insurance than I am for my actual vehicle.

Now I might add that I'm pretty much who they make all their money on - 21 year old male. Pretty much commonly accepted to be the highest insurance bracket. Funnily enough since I live in the suburbs, I actually pay about 300 less a year than if I lived in Toronto, which is only ... 5 km away. ALSO, I bought a TL because guess what - I'd be paying 5200$ a year for a Corolla. FUCK. THAT.

I spent 4 years commuting 1 and a half hours to work every day, on a terrible transportation system and I was already paying 2500 a year in transportation for public transit. I decided to say screw it, get my G2 (I had my G1 since I was 16) and get a car because saving a good 2 hours of assfucking each day was worth the money in my mind.

That's why I had beater cars while I was younger. Don't insure them for collision and hope for the best. Worked out for me, never got into a collision, although I was in a car accident where the car was totalled but I wasn't the driver.

Not really an option for me to be honest. With the way Toronto is, its very hard to get away without collision. Don't get me wrong, I'm paying the insurance out of my pocket - mommy and daddy aren't paying it for me, and I'm proud of the fact lol, I just wish I didn't have to bend over and take a ramming without lube

Sorry, genuine rambling rant here, I just feel really pissed off about the whole thing. At the end of the day, I sit down in the car and realize how its been by far the best purchase I've ever made, so I can't say shit.

Hey I'm in Montreal, it's not like its really better here. Just watch out for the taxi drivers, gramps with the hat, asian learners and kid racers. Then dodge the potholes and the construction cones and you're good to go! Driving in Montreal would make for a great car ad.

Still, beaters are great. Crash it? Trash it. Insurance pays for the other person and you start a new. You'd be surprised what $1500 can get you if you look around and don't mind the mileage.
