The 3G Ramblings & General Discussion Thread (Part 2)
Good morning.
Damn Justin that sucks. Finding a good body shop is such a pain in the ass. Probably even harder than finding a good mechanic. Luckily we all work on our own cars so only one of these is a problem.

TBH, that is exactly why I work on my own car. How many times when you're young are you told that you NEED something on the car, or the oil plug is left loose, or there is a new ding, or they say they changed something that you never really know if they did.
I'd rather all the mistakes on my car be done by me
That's a big reason I've decided (with Maj's push) to tackle the TB job as well as the valve adjustment. Someone would gladly take my $1000 and tell me it's all good and never bother with the valves or not swap gaskets, or drop a bolt and not bother to replace it, or not torque to spec.
When it comes to car stuff, I'm one of the most anal retentive guys and I hold myself to a very high standard and won't settle for "good enough". It's hard to find other people like that, even if you're paying them.
Had a friend with a body shop...I used to tell him, "bro, you need to be at LEAST as anal as your customer"...helped him with a ballast issue on his wife's car...as repayment he painted my grill the first go. 3 days turned into a month...get it back missing all hardware, then, ask Wacker, come to find out dude didn't even bother SANDING and prepping before shooting. I literally had to sit in front of the car once a week putting touch up paint on all the chips...and the guy took a month because he was "researching the proper etching primer to ensure perfection". Liar...and he's a close friend too.
Wacker painted it...not even one chip in over a year.

Yeah we're sorry, that's what friends do. Glad you take it in stride but we're disappointed on your behalf. It doesn't ruin our day, but it's the companion sentiment that counts

Rockstar. You must me my sister from another mister. I think exactly like you do. I do all of the work on my car myself, short of alignments, tire balancing, and other shit that requires huge tooling investments. It's because I love anal too. And that shit has to be done right.

...lol, well, didn't he only really need it THAT weekend for his family being in town.
Anyway, Vlad, we are, man...for sure. I'm sure the majority of us are on the same page and you took the words right out of my mouth...if I COULD, I'd have a lift and be able to align and mount/balance, everything, really.
Dually noted, huh Justin... Can't tell if that was one of your quips like when you say "butt guise"

As a matter of fact, as I've had to address issue after issue of self induced and failing components on this car, I'll feel like I should be able to call myself SAE certified! Acurazine Accredited University. Busted Knuckle College.

Pretty impressive that you guys work on your own cars. Although, the common factor it appears is that you all are in much warmer climates.
Weather up here is not conducive of it at times (heck, most of the year)...garage isn't that big either...barely squeeze in the FX and Countryman.
That, and well, I don't like getting dirty. Still, it's impressive you guys all work on your own cars...

I proved he was dumb by using basic physics and math to prove multiple buslengths.. he still acted like a little bitch so I found pics of his car. He's very careful not to post pics of himself or his location, but one of his pics was of his navi (1 road, 1 stream). Knowing his general vicinity from another site, I tracked down his address by scanning google maps (took about 2 hours), name, parent's address, university address, dob, etc. From there I found all types of gold. The only pussy he gets is from his cat. If you ever feel yourself drawn to retort, just remember how pathetic he is and post a precious smiley..
I'll post some shit in here if you guys want..

last time my car saw a shop/dealership (other than for alignment and balancing) was about 50K miles back...
however, for biggg jobs that I have no knowledge off, I would rather take it in than tackle it myself...for example the TB job, maybe there is a step with should be done which is common sense and not mentioned in the DIY, I would hate for the belt to slip off OR snap while am driving and end up costing me 3-4 times as much....even if the dealership messes up the job, they do warranty it and hence it should not be on me....
plus I hate experimenting on others car...I remember Matt was like "why dont we try this on my car"....and I was like "umm no....i would rather mess up my car trying something than put your car in the garage because I f-ed up"....
now with the kid though, I barely go out there...not like I dont have the time, but I would rather spend some time playing with the baby than out there wrenching on shit that I dont need too....

PS Yum...I can't say 100% but sometimes, when I'm walking from the computer chair to the kitchen sink and my testes sack is stuck to my legs and every breath is labored and heavy with humidity...I'm not that inclined to want to go out in the garage and get sweaty either. I used to only have a 1 car garage and had things hanging from the ceiling and walls and would have to rearrange areas in it depending on what side or corner of the car I was working on. Shoot, go back 15 years and I was living in a 2 bedroom apartment on the 2nd floor, I remember my car on jacks, taking my spring/shocks up to the apartment sink one by one so I could take my little dremel and cut a coil off to lower it.
Ghetttooo...
Moral of the story, I don't think climate would be a huge factor for me.

Lol I hate messing stuff up on other people's cars. I always make it right though. But it seriously screws up my schedule.... I only help my closest friends, or do stuff that is elementary.

Local buds that know that I mod will sometimes ask me, but I'll be straight up honest with them that I'm not comfortable tackling something I might mess up. On more than one occasion I've been the nice guy and said sure, and get stuck with some HUGE headache because something went wrong. That and Betty, my manager, is like, hey dumba$$...are they gonna pay your Dr. bills when your back is broken from working on all their cars for free?

It was bad though...it had gotten to the point at my old place where the neighbors would interrupt dinner to ask me to come take a look since I "know cars". Like, GTFO...except I was afraid of getting reported to the association so I'd go to keep them happy.
we broke the fill bolt.
I didnt, he did...
but he has never contacted me again...

Hey Maj, Austin isn't scared of you because he willingly posts his own nudes anywhere he's asked to. Can't scare a guy with nothing to lose. And I do almost mean "nothing".

Yes sir, Vlad...buddy of mine LOVES Immortal Technique.
He's gritty and decent, but sounds somewhat wannabeish to me. Like he's trying to sound like someone else.

While I'm a big-time car fan, I also don't know enough about them on a practical sense to take it apart aside from the basics. So, for instance, to install headers or anything funky to my car, I'd need to pay someone.
Would it be different if I were somewhere else? Possibly. Also, much of the crew I run with here aren't into working on cars either.

Trust me.. some douchers are worth it.
Here's a picture of his black pussy..
btw this guy spends all his money on audio components, cables, plasmas and cars. I'm talking thousands of dollars on just one cable alone. What a dumbass. Cables are dirt fucking cheap. Homeboy is acct exec at Monster. Their high-end cables have so much markup, it's asinine.

I love rappers who spit the truth about poverty, corruption, and injustice instead of cash cars clothes and hoes.
Then again, I also like cash, cars, clothes and hoes.
