damn you guys sure are moving fast on here today! Go figure, the one morning I'm not on lol.

Gatrhump-- welllllll, if you are looking to go moar low, i may know a fantastic girl with Neusprings for sale! (Me, duhhh) LOL.

And buying a house isn't all its cracked up to be. It used to pay off, but now, in these day and ages, the less "better off" in life you are, the better. Part of me wishes I could just up and sell my house, but I know my little brats would totally destroy a rental property LOL

Throw money away every month or put money towards something that is yours.

Owning is without a doubt the way to go.

Chaffing!! (pronounced: WINNING!)

Renting is better...not your problem, walk when you like. Nobody buys a house and just lives with it with their wife for the next 60 years anymore anyway and the markets aren't steadily climibing like they have in the past to be able to claim it an investment.

Unless you live in your Mom's basement like Justin...not throwing money away on a living expense every month isn't a realistic expectation.

In the long run, maybe, but that's assuming you don't get butt effed along the way. My house physically is only less than 10 yrs old, and since we have had it the last 5 yrs we have already had to replace the hot water heater, along with appliances, and re-do some electrical. If we were renting, that would all be free. Not to mention property taxes. Why the hell the government would penalize you, charging so damn much for something that you worked so damn hard to get (which you already paid taxes on the money you used to BUY the damn house) is beyond me.

And have you heard the phrase, imminent domain? That's a butt eff if i ever knew of one. They have done that by me in at least 2 areas, one for a highway, and one for an airport. The govt says "hey, you are going to have to sell us your house. I don't care how much work you have put into it, how much taxes you have paid on it, or how hard you worked to get it. You are going to give it to me just because I said so, oh and here is $20 just bc i have to give you something for it".

Obviously an overview of your lifestyle is needed. And if you plan to move on in say less then 10 years, you may want to consider renting.

Beyond that though, owning is generally cheaper and you're not throwing money away.

If you can't buy a house, live in it a few years and make profit from it, you're doing it wrong.

With today's market. Building is almost the best option. We are thinking of buying land in Florida now and then just building in a year or two. Pay the land off and use as collateral or pay land off and put money down to build.

Acreage is the best way to go for when the zombie apocolypse happens.

LOL! If only that were the case... in this economy, the housing market sucks. It's not the way it used to be. Usually, you put money into a home, maybe do some renovations, and bring the value up, and list it.... now, with so many foreclosures on the market-- cheap-- why would someone pay an extra $100k just because? They could buy the foreclosed house, maybe throw $15k into it, and be good?

Not to mention, people are so hurt for money, that I have actually read about townspeople fighting to get their property appraised for less. They can't afford their mortgage and taxes, so they fight to lower their taxes. Personally, I don't have that issue, I paid for my home and 2 of our 3 cars all in cash, so I have virtually no bills besides utilities anyway, but how do you make money on a home in which the town has been appraised for less? The value of your home depends on your neighbors homes. I much rather pay a little more in taxes to boost up resale value but unless you get everyone on that same boat it doesn't work.

Of course you want your house to appraise for less from the city/county (less taxes). That has always been the case. You want the bank appraisal to be high (more equity).

It's really not the fact of putting money into a home and getting it back. It's the fees and costs of selling/buying that becomes the big difference maker in not sticking with a house for a while. But that can be overcome when done right.

Well, idk how its done in over there in OH but sounds like you are the one who needs an overview lmao...

You act like one appraisal doesn't have to do with the other. If a town isn't worth shit, your home isn't worth shit. Not many places besides NYC will people pay $500,000 to live in the ghetto lol.

And you are forgetting, where that tax money goes. Good school districts bring up property value, nicely paved roads bring it up, a good police force/low crime all bring it up. Now, I'm not a fan of property taxes but if you are going to do something, do it right. Don't shortchange and do it half assed.
