Seconded for WeMo. Their app sucks, but they integrate well with Alexa, Google Assistant.
Personally, I wish there was a more affordable smart light switch. Lutrons are really nice but uber expensive.

By the way, this is purely speculation, I don't own any smart plugs

They're expensive because of the Caseta hub. Stand-alone light switches are hard to come by because a majority of older homes don't have a neutral wire to the switch so it wouldn't work. The hub allows you to install the switches in homes that don't have the neutral as the hub is what is connected to the Internet/Google Home/Alex. Then the switches simply communicate to the hub rather than directly to the Webz.
