The 3G Ramblings & General Discussion Thread
:what:
The sacrifice was well worth it, as my school was paid for. I have 60% hearing loss in my left ear and a bad lower back. I am functional and more than happy with the experience I received. it took me over 2 years to return to normal social interaction due to, I guess it would be classified as PTSD. (we all decline us having it)
It's real. Totally real. I have many many friends who have served and are currently serving that are dealing with it. One very close friend (Master Sgt that served 3 tours so far) has lost his marriage over it. He has lived in denial about it since his first tour and has refused to get help. Finally after returning from his last tour it was so bad, his wife had to leave out of fear for her safety. She has been beaten, choked, smothered, and had guns to her head during his nightmares. He is one of the most kind guys I know. When he is awake he is just fine, but his dreams take over and he acts them out physically. He doesn't want to get help because he is afraid it will end his career. I hate it for the guy....but at the same time I want to beat some sense into him.

So I just got a deal for some BNIB blackworks racing coilovers for 498 as a trial. I have to try them out and write a review for them but still not sure I want to do it. I guess if they aren't as good as I want them to be I can always get close to all of my money selling them used but still. Is it worth the headache.
What do you guys think? Should I go for it? If not I can only afford to do tein springs which I know I will not be happy with in the long run and want to go lower.

I'd just keep saving for Tein coils
I'm the "play it safe" type so I went with what I knew worked.

someone who has a budget for tein springs ($200), you want them to get tein coils ($700+) ?....its like telling a guy who can barely afford a GTR to go buy a 458 Italia
@TheMuffinMan....if you are on a strict budget get the Tein springs...they are well worth the money....I know Steven Bell and McCollins have them (local members) and I have yet to hear a single complain from them....the springs gave their car a very very decent drop (~1.75-2") and ride quality is still amazing....
I am not sure if they have the STech or the Htech....i would suggest you to confirm that from them
that being said, coils do give more for your $$$ but if you are only looking for a drop and on a budget, I would pick those springs any day of the week

I have Tein S techs, Steve has H&R sport springs. Both are about the same drop, but the H&R are firmer than S techs.

Well that's "at the moment".
Keep saving up and you could afford them
Shit if I went with springs I would have had everything done in 2 months

^^^ well again are you using the coils?
are you adjusting dampening? preload? or did you just buy coils coz you wanna be cool?
I understand your point about saving up for coils being a better idea....and i agree with you on that....but to a person who says i can ONLY afford $175 for springs, you ask him to save another $600 and get Coils?
if he was going to get Tein basis $700 and you ask him to save another $200 and get Tein SS, now that makes a lot more sense....you catching my drift?

Yeah makes sense, just a suggestion, he said it himself he's worried about not being low enough with springs.
And yes, I have used my coils.
Adjusted them 3 times, going to change my damping this weekend too.

I have about 0.75" left on my front coils, bout .5" on the rear.
So that's more than a 2" drop.
Springs won't give you that.
Check the tech specs on Tein or H&R.

I think he is saying looks wise not actual specs. Do you think you'd be able to see a 1/4 of an inch difference just by looking.

Well the tein basis are TERRIBLE as coilovers go. No preload adjustment and no tophats. That doesn't make a good coilover setup. The blackworks come assembled and have full height adjustment while retaining full suspension travel. They just don't have dampening adjustment only rebound so that part sucks. So it is either 175 for springs and probably new struts in the near future down the road when they blow from being lowered or getting these coilovers for 500 or saving up till I can afford the good tein coils or going with another known brand that are known to be good.

I don't think any Tein coils come with tophats, kinda sucks but you can reuse your OEM parts or if you order from a Vendor here they can install them for you for a little extra.
Your other coils choices (which are cheaper and come with tophats) are ISC, Function & Form, HT Spec, Megan, ect.
You just have to decide what you want from a coil setup. Harder suspension but lower, or more comfortable with a pretty decent drop
Tein SA does 2.9~ maxed out which is pretty low if you ask me but Megans will SLAM it lol
As you said with the springs, will you be happy with the drop? Will you be okay with no adjustments? With Matt & Steven (and many others) on springs, you can get a great idea of what your car would look like.
If you're really looking into the Black Works, see if you can find some reviews on them

he's scared because 500 miles into my tein springs, i blew my stock shock. They only had ~30k on them when i changed the springs. plus its always nice to be able to go back to stock if you go to sell the car. more market for non modified cars vs modified unless you sell on a forum
