3g owners ive got a few questions

UWhat's up guys. I'm a proud owner of a 2g tls. I am in the process of upgrading to a 3g type s. Actually this weekend but I was on my second tranny on my TLS and it went out on me the day b4 yesterday! So I may be pushed back depending how much I will be paying when I pick it up.

My questions are have any of the 3g s had any tranny problems? I did a search but did not find much. Second how much did you guys pay for your type s for and mileage?
I think I found some really good deals but I just would like to get some inside input from our forum
White type s 07 with 40k auto 24k clean title. Deals or no deals?
Also a blk type s with 60k auto for 23k.

I will be trying for the wdp but the blk is my fall back decision.

Thanks guys.

for 3g tl, 04 and 05 have weak trannies but still better than 2g tl from what i heard around this forum. 06 and up , those have updated trannies which are more relieable.

07 tls auto 40k miles - 24k sounds right for a typical dealer price but i think you can go a bit lower. if i was you i would go with the wdp because the mileage/price

I think the problems are only related to the Auto trannies.. not the manuals..

Yeah that was what I was thinking to. I just hope that its still available cause within my search here in Seattle type s are going between 28k and 32k. So I was thinking at 23k wasn't. That bad. Thanks for.the input bro.

i have never heard of a major 07+ auto trans problems. the majority are found in the 04-05. there were some updates in 06, and then in 07+ i believe they used a variation of the RL trans which was an improved model. for the most part i would not worry, regardless of model year. good luck!

There haven't been any problems with the 07 and 08 ones so far. As far as the 04-06 ones, people are a bit more cautious esp with the 04's and 05 since they were the "test" ones with the new transmissions. Some updates were made in 06 models with respect to some oil channels and also the torque management software. As long as you change the fluid 3x3 method by 60K miles, the transmission should last a while. If you don't then change it slowly, 3 quarts at a time and don't rush it. Judge the quality of the shifts and work from there. For example if the car has 100K on it and the fluid is black, metallic and filled with grit, change it once and stop there. Your going need a rebuild VERY soon. If you are at 100K and the fluid is brown with no grit or metal, do a drain and refill and drive around for a week. If the car feels better, then do it again. If it still feels fine, do it for the third time and then you'll have about 96% new fluid in the trans.

I have an 04 AT with 73k on it right now. I bought the car with 49k on it a year ago. A little old lady owned it before me and had the recall done for the oil jet kit for third gear (IIRC) almost right when it came out, so hopefully I'll have no issues down the road. But if I do, I'm just going to do a 6MT swap so w/e.

I got my 08 TLS for a really good deal!!! I wheeled and dealed with the dealer and had a big down payment. My car at the time was worth around 32k-33k, I talked the guy down with tax, title for 26800, clean carfax 1 owner!!! If you do your research around your area that will give u the tools you need to let the salesman know that someone else will do better, if not u can always lie like I did and they will be prepared to hook it up on the price.

As for tranny problems, none yet.

From what i understand the 3g type s uses the beefier RL transmission for the Auto... So no, you probably wont run into problems with it unless you neutral drop it or some crap all the time, or you could just get a 6 speed and not worry about it ;-)

Correct. The 07-08 TL-S uses a modified version of the trans from the RL.
