Although they are quite capable to see 30+ mpg when on the highway, I'd say look at the EPA mileage:
18/26 overall @ 21 average with premium fuel.

With my 6 Speed I see 32-35 MPG at 60-70mph. 27-29 MPG at 75-80mph. 23MPG is what I usually average a tank for mixed city/highway driving.

Not exactly a TL, but my 2006 Accord V6 auto averages about 25 mpg. 60/40 highway/city.

Driven with a lead foot, BTW!

Automatic or manual transmission?

My 2006 with a 6-Speed Manual is capable of a max of about 36 mpg; in normal day-to-day driving I get between 26 and 29 mpg (lower in the winter, higher in the summer).

18-33 depending on how you drive, where you drive, tires, speeds, how often you stop, how fast you accelerate, how fast you drive, how many stop lights you hit, and about 274 other variables. This topics has been covered many many many times over the years. Lots of good info out there. Basically the TL is a pig when driven in true stop and go traffic. It is pretty impressive when driven on pure steady speed highway, especially if kept under 65mph.

You are in high school....pretty crazy for a 21 year old to be in high school I must say....but guessing drive like any normal teenager, so I would expect high teens to low 20s overall. Don't forget these cars really like premium. Many get away with 87 octane, many don't. That is yet another topic you should search through on here for too many opinions.

MT yield more fuel efficient than AT. Here are the break down of individual 3G TL trim MPG, its happens that I have all the trims.

1. AT Base get 30 MPG on the highway, mixed at 25 MPG,
2. MT base get 30 MPG on the highway and 25 mpg mixed
3. Type S AT got 29-30 MPG highway and 24 MPG mixed
4. Type S MT got 32 MPG highway and 27 MPG mixed.

by far the most fuel efficient vehicle on my fleet is the TL-S MT.

I'm surprised your MT Base was so low; I can get 32-33 on the highway without even trying and 36 if I take it easy.

Could be; I also keep climate control on auto, but keep the A/C off except for a few days per year (so far I've had the A/C on for a whopping total of one day this year).

I’ve gotten about 23 mixed & 29/30 was the Highest I’ve seen on highway driving. I’m in an 08 TL type s Auto, I couldn’t believe how quickly the needle kept dropping when I bought this car, (even when babying ) I use it to travel 102 miles daily, mostly highway. Once the light comes on, I fill the car up so I’m not stranded. Each time I fill up, i only get about 13 gallons. So with the light on do I still have another 4 gallons left ? Also when it comes on can I drive 50 miles to make it home? I wish the car did say how many miles to empty.

Hmmm, my 2006 has a DTE display, it is still very conservative. On one trip I drove upwards of 50 miles after the DTE showed 0 miles remaining, and was still only able to put 14.8 gallons in the tank. Given I'd already driven about 550 miles on that tank, I figure I could easily have gotten to 600.

yes...

the fuel reserve is for dummies...
when the fuel gauge is empty, you have another 3-4 gallons of reserve...cuz everyone likes to drive on E.

Ok thank you, I guess I won’t panic as much when the light comes on.

What I find funny is my previous car, a 2001 Honda Accord V6, pretty much the twin of the 2G TL, had the same size gas tank as my 3G TL, that said, the low fuel light on the Accord would typically come on around the 14.7 gallon mark, easily 1.5-2.0 gallons further down than my TL. I am not sure why the Acura has such a conservative low fuel indicator, but it is pretty consistent no matter which 3G TL owner you ask.
