370Z I/E vs. Bolt on Accord 6MT (Preface)

So me and my friend are slate to have a rematch soon. We keep talking about it and BS'ing of what's gonna happen and such. In case you didn't see the other thread, we did 3-4 runs last time. He was stock with about 1100-1300 miles and had a passenger. 3/4 runs were either even or him at my rear bumper by the top of 4th gear. We did 1 dig run and 3 1st gear rolls.

Now, things have changed. He is now broken in and has the Stillen dual intakes at this point. He is expecting his Fast Intentions exhaust this Friday. So I assume it will be on when we run, because it may not be for a week or so. Idk why but I just wanted to post it in advance lol. Always nice to have some suspense

At this point my mods are as follows:

Fujita CAI
RV6 PCDs/Jpipe
P2R ported IM
3in catback
UR Pulley

With a new Jpipe and a true 3" collector, I think the car would run much stronger. Especially since the 3" starts at the test pipe which is 2.5", so I think I'm losing a few hp/tq at least without the 3" collector.

I posted this because I know some people (myself included) like to predict the outcome of a race before it happens. Now's your chance! If not, hold tight because the results will be up soon.

THERE WILL BE VIDEOS!! Whether it's from the passengers or if none, a camera car. I'd prefer from the passengers perspective, but we will see.

I think the 370Z will take you .. but not by much.

Good luck man!

When did you get the pulley on man?

No offense to you Sonnick, but I'm not convinced of your friend's driving abilities. Even with all your mods, that Z should be putting significant distance on you. I know you've got more mods now, but I don't see then adding a serious amount of HP. Your car probably does 103mph in the 1/4 in sea level air. This Z with those mods should see at least 109mph. That's about 5 cars in the 1/4 mile. From a 60mph roll, that's at least 3 cars by 110mph.

Can't wait hehehe....

Side note: went to check out the new 370Z and that thing is sexy. Sad part is that I am not ready yet, need an extra garage space.

None taken. Please note that I have no doubt he is gonna take this race. Especially since I only had him by a smidge when he had 1100 miles AND had a passenger. I don't see him destroying me, but I do see it being 3 cars thru 4th gear. Since last run I will have added the 3in exhaust and UR pulley (and hopefully the check valve mod, which may not work at this point in my clutch's life). He will have been broken in, I/E and down 200lbs. Ehh maybe I'm just hoping lol.

Remember though, last time he had a passenger AND it wasn't broken in. He also weighs about 250+ and his passenger was around 200, so that has an effect too since I'm about 150 (though slowly trying to gain 15lbs ).

My buddy is a pretty good driver. When we ran he was shifting pretty well, the weight and not being broken in was the issue I think. Also, I was shifting my ass off during those runs. Due to my clutch's menstrual cycle, I can't shift as fast or it'll slip, so I don't intend to be as close as I normally would with me hammer-shifting (Unless the check valve mod turns this around).

Tyler: It's not on yet, but I figured it will be installed before we do the runs so I put it up there.

Def, but by how much?

If my friend and I do the check valve mod and it works and I can shift like normal, then I think it's going to be 2-3 cars. If it doesn't, then I'm gonna say 3-4.

I beat the Genesis coupe 3.8 6MT after giving up a 1 car lead immediately at the line, and ended up putting 1-1.5 cars by mid 4th. That was with the 1-2 and 2-3 slipping a little under semi-hard shifts. And after the Genesis got the dealer reflash. That thing is nice!

I think he's going to murder you out of the hole. Why don't you spring for some drag radials?

Not in my budget right now. Gotta save up to move up

He may very well dig me out of the hole, but I think he's still getting used to RWD. With that said, we are going to do dig and roll races.

You still have him.

I doubt he's improved much as a driver (which is why he didn't have a bus or more on you last time). Plus, he isn't going to see any real gains from the I/E until he gets a tune. What kind of exhaust? Some are just noise makers, others offer gains. Also, are his Stillen's Gen III?

Genesis coupe has nothing on the 370/G37, not really a good way to judge outcome.

Good luck dude.

Yes, he has the Stillen GenIII intakes and FI non-resonated exhaust. I'm not making excuses for why I kept up, but he is not a bad driver at all. Like I said he weighs 100+ more lbs than me and had another 200lbs or so in the car. That's an extra 300lbs which should be around 2 cars. So given equal weight, he would've put 1 car on me, which sounds about right considering he wasn't broken in yet.

http://370zexhaust.com/370z-fast-int...haust-dyno.jpg

That's one dyno for the Fast Intentions exhaust. I'd say that's a pretty good gain lol. He is gonna have no problem pulling on me.

I know the Genesis coupe isn't a 370, but it sure is quick. Especially with a good driver and the dealer reflash (which is similar to our check valve delete). They've seen mid 13s with I/E.

Yes sir they sure have seen mid 13's with I/E. Here is one on drag times with I/E that ran a 13.6 @104MPH and it is the 6AT. I was impressed! That was with a 2.1 60ft. He could improve on that 60ft he would see a 13.4!

http://www.dragtimes.com/Hyundai-Gen...lip-20798.html

Here is a stock 6AT Genesis Coupe that ran a 13.7@101 with a 2.0 60ft!!

13.6 @ 104mph w/ a 2.1 60' is incredible, shows how fast they are from a roll.

Just keep in mind both these cars were run at tracks that turn seriously quick times when the weather is cool and these numbers are far from the norm. These runs are about as normal as stock 03-06 350Zs running 13.6s@102-103mph. The modded 13.6 coupe in question ran in DA conditions of -1000 feet and the car was making 105% of it's normal power. Conditions alone were responsible for an additional 15whp. Just something to consider.

Sooo we finally got a run in tonight. I got it on video, though it's not a great one

Neither of us had passengers so it was hard to do it. I ended up putting it in my passenger headrest and it worked as well as it did. Again...370Z 6MT with Stillen dual CAIs/FI true dual exhaust. Me with CAI/Jpipe/PCDs/3in catback/ported IM (UR Pulley has NOT been installed).

We did a 1st gear roll (15mph) to about 105. I wish I would've closed the window so I could hear my car, but his 370 sounds amazing so I'm not too mad. I did chirp 3rd though if you listen hard you can hear it. But anyway, he got me by about 2 cars. It didn't sound like he revved 3rd all the way out though.

He's in the midst of getting test pipes and a tune today, so I figured I'd run him before he absolutely destroys me lol.

Sorry for the terrible video

I know it was a terrible video. If you look close you can see his tail lights pulling slightly away from me. He had 2 cars at the end of our 15-105 run. He now installed test pipes and has gotten tuned and put down 339whp!

Sometimes I wonder whether the Accord was underrated from the factory power-wise.

I mean, think about it. You're 244 horsepower stock. The Z is what, 330? With your mods and his mods, he has to have at least a 60 horse advantage, although 80 is more like it. Consider the fact that the Z is a dedicated sports car platform, and the Accord is, well let's face it, a family sedan platform. The fact that he isn't absolutely destroying you is a testament to one or more of 3 things:

1: The Accord is the shiznit stock
2: The Accord responds amazingly to mods
3: You're a damn good driver

My guess is it's a bit of all 3. I know you didn't win, but that's a VERY nice performance

The Accord is slightly underrated, but not much. I think when TOV dynoed an '04 TL 6MT, they got 222 whp and then got ~216 on an MT 7G Accord on the same dyno. The TL was rated at 270 at the time, which became 258 under the new standard, and the Accord was rated at 240, but was more likely an honest 250.

Two things TL's/Accords have going for them is that they don't lose much from the crank to the front wheels in manual configuration and they respond REALLY well to exhaust mods.

With all those mods, if you take a well driven 370z, you can take a stock MS3. But I doubt you could take the z.... most time on the road it's the drivers that make the difference.

Do you like your TL 6MT? Go get a Mazdaspeed 3. It's much faster stock. You will not disappoint.

You better ask for dyno sheets! There is a few 370's that have put #'s close to the listed above! However, these z's have full bolt ons and tune! This guy is probably withholding something or he's sandbagging you!!! With 339whp, which is where a VQ37VHR is maxing out, will put way more than 2cl's! You said that he didn't go entirely thru 3rd which in stock gearing ends by 110mph! Impressive accord anyways!

Stock ends at 110? I've always seen it end @100 on Youtube. Oh, he didn't have 339whp when we ran, probably closer to 300. He had only I/E when we ran. He now has I/E/Test pipes/Tune and put down 339. I think that is a high reading dyno though...probably 315.

It's a 3.51 Final drive! Don't forget the redline is 7500rpms! 2nd ends at approximately 75mph! the auto's have 3.23. tallest gears, good for boost but not n/a! Anyways, with 300+ whp he will easily pull on you!
