block heater

I installed the OEM one...it was a pretty easy job, except for loosening the 19mm bolt on the front of the engine.

I swear by it -- I just put it on a pool pump timer rated for 20A, switches on at about 3am and it makes for a very easy start. It was about -20 in the twin cities yesterday morning.

I'd always rather it be very cold than very hot. You can always throw on another layer, or wear polarfleece-lined jeans, or do something else to warm up, but if it gets very hot, you get arrested if you take off too much!

BTW, responding to "nfnsquared," I do not have a remote start for two reasons—I have the 6MT and I park the car in the one-car garage on my townhouse, the latter making it unsafe to have the car running to pre-heat it due to concentrating the exhaust in there. On the other hand, though, that means the car isn't nearly as cold in the morning. (Of course, on the -8°F day I mentioned at Mont-Tremblant, the car was parked outdoors at the timeshare. It hasn't gotten that cold in the DC area in a LONG time, probably not since 1985 when Reagan's second inauguration was moved indoors due to wind chills in the -30°F range.)
